Parking Sensors Accessory

Hi. I just leased an RL, and I'm loving the vehicle.

While waiting for the sales and finance guys to do their thing, I browsed the accessory catalog and found parking sensors. I am interested in them because the vehicle I had before had them, and I got kind of used to them.

Does anyone here have them?

If so, how do they work? I have an Odyssey, and when I approach something, a notice appears in the Multi-Information Display. Does that work the same way with the accessory version of these? Or, does it just do the beeping?

Thanks in advance for any info!

Just beeping in the Accessory Parking Sensor setup.

If you got the Tech package though, it's almost redundant with the backup camera. After you get used to it, a lot of people find it's far superior to the sensors.

If you didn't get the tech package, it may be worth it, but it's just audible.

Has anyone bought a back up camera, after buying the car? If so what did you pay to have it installed? I just talked to Acura of Lynnwood and they tried to tell me that it would take 3.5 hours of labor, so bringing the cost to almost $400, sounds like a bit much, if you ask me.

I have the sensors and use them all the time. It is nice to be able to look in the side mirrors and listen to the sensor beep when trying to wedge into small spaces (not the optimal choice, but sometimes it is all that is available at some work sites I visit). With a camera, I would not be able to focus only on the side mirrors. BTW, I installed the sensors myself-fairly easy once you get past drilling holes in your bumper!

There's some discussion about camera costs in other threads. I had the camera installed pre-delivery, and it was about $650 installed.

Would free be too much for you, too?

For those with the sensors how far away does the beep turn solid for you. Mine seems to be in the 12 to 18 inch range, which I could easily do with the sensors. I have them in another car and it turns solid at about 3 to 4 inches. I find this very useful as I can get pretty close when parking without actually hitting it. If I was to do it again, I doubt I would have them put in again as I don't have a problem getting within 18 inches of objects. Maybe there is a way to adjust them, that would be nice.

I have an 06. I am not aware if the camera can be installed on the 05. I noticed in the updates for the Navigation DVD, one of the improvements for Version 4.3 which came with the 06 was support of the rear backup camera.

Have you searched the forums, I seem to recall something about this, but have no time to research.

Call up Radley and ask for Sohail, asst svc mgr.

Search the forums. AFAIK, it is *not* possible to retrofit an 06/07 backup camera to an 05, because the head unit doesn't have the firmware to deal with it.

You could possibly get some kind of aftermarket solution, but the Acura camera will not work on an '05.

The Acura back-up camera will not work with the 2005 RL. If I remember correctly the 05 RL lacks the switch to activate the camera when the car is put in reverse. Search for the posts from forum member "Qatar" about his attempts to have it installed in his 05. It is possible to have an aftermarket camera installed using something like a TVandNav2Go unit. I believe there are 05 owners who have aftermarket cameras installed successfully.

2005 Backup Interface

Check out this link to Kicker/Soundgate. I had one installed (vidhondv2) and yes it did work when the car was in reverse, but then about half of the Nav screen and audio functions did not work. I sent it back and they sent me two more units which did not work as they should (hondvid3 was the newest). It could have been because my Nav unit was not working properly at the time. I am trying to find a retailer in Salt Lake that can install and checkout the unit. The B/U camera I got at Best Buy. I think I had about $500 total into the project. Kicker did refund my $350 for the unit. I would buy again if I knew it would work.
