opinion on a 2005 RL

currently working on a deal on a 2005 RL with 114k miles, the guy brought the price down to 10,200 the only issue with the car are a scrape on the rear bumper from parking and a AFS light in the dash. should I go for it ?

That sounds reasonable. Does the seller have maintenance records? Has the timing belt been changed? Have you done your homework on the gremlins of the '05 and know what to look for?

Y'know, we've all seen (or given) advice to buy any year but an '05.

But speaking as someone too lazy to look it up, I'll bet that close to half of all the cars sold in this RL generation were '05s. And it's obvious that they're by far the most affordable. So I think the first reply was a well-balanced one; it'd be silly to simply tell people who want an RL-like car to buy whatever else that number of dollars would buy (say, an old STS?).

I have an 05' no issues to date!.. Just make sure all the tsb or recalls have been done on her! As stated above make sure A timing belt has been done or B will be done by you or seller! Other than that make sure AC works, door handles work AFS works and you should be golden in an 05. Others feel free to chime in on 05 related issues that may hamper a buying decision! I specifically got my 05 because of the 300hp rating after that you other fellas get a mere 280 or 290 whatever

Afs light is $1000 to fix. Stroke sensor and/or control unit.

^ +1. Seller definitely knows what it's going to cost. Try to drive the price down a bit more.

I too have an 05 and to date have had minimal problems with the car. A few things sucked to get fixed, but thank goodness for the warranty. But remember, the car is 7 years old by now... even though quite a few people think its a 2011 or 2010 car (lol at the don't knows)
