the old telescoping wheel problem
well versed on the weak battery induced telescoping wheel problem, but wondering if I am possibly experiencing something else as I replaced battery about a year ago.
We have had a rather unusual heat wave in Bay area with temps in the 90s.
Got in car in afternoon yesterday and noticed as I am driving that steering wheel is not extended and D1 button on Door not lit. I chalked this up to putting car in reverse too quickly which I know from experience causes same issue.
However, I experienced same problem today and I was careful not to move out of park too quickly.
Could high heat make battery appear weak under load?
Some other heat related gremlin?
Or, just getting the sneak preview of my battery failing way too soon?
(Have had the car in 100+ temps last summer with no gremlins.)

I think it's the last item on your list. The late-model Acura OEM batteries are WEAK. I'd go aftermarket next time.

I had a similar problem on my MDX but never with the RL. The MDX problem turned out to be a faulty actuator in the drivers side mirror that caused the entire adjustment cycle to halt after I turned the ignition on. Take note if it's just the steering wheel or maybe everything that is not finishing its adjustments. For me, pressing the driver 1/2 button a second time resumed the cycle. Also, since it was the side mirrors (in my case) the problem only happened when I was switching from driver 1 to 2 or visa versa. Steering wheel adjusted fine if I was the last driver in the car.
Last advice: problems like I just described will throw error codes. Just bring it in and have the techs check to speed up the diagnosis.

Actually, I did go aftermarket. I changed the battery myself. Didn't know it was under warranty until reading about that on this forum, but had already changed it.

BTW, battery in my RL went already and was replaced under warranty about 6 months ago. It was detected in a normal inspection during an oil change. But at no time did the electronics of the car show signs of problems. That includes the driver 1/2 auto adjustment sequence at startup.

In my situation I thought they replaced the voltage regulator, but I just looked at the service order and it states they replaced the "gauge control unit". They also did replace the battery.

Optima Battery...
I was having trouble with steering wheel deployment even after replacement of OEM battery under warranty. I got fed up with dealer crap, and bought an Optima Red Top battery (special order at Sam's Club). Problem solved.
