Any oil you want with the right weight and viscosity . Doesn't matter.

spot on.

if you are a novice, you can follow the advice that is given in the owners manual.

if you know the proper SAE weight and viscosity for your region, you can use that as well.

1. A little search would have shown you there's a few threads on that.

Manual says 5w20; syntethic or not does not matter as long as it's API approved oil.

If you live in a relatively hotter climate and/or are often hard on the gas pedal, use 5w30.

But 5w20, what's in the manual, is generally what you should stick to.

Any API approved oil will do the job. Manual says 5W-20, that's what I use. I use Mobil 1 since my car's run on synthetic since day 1. I've been thinking of switching to Penzoil Platinum or Ultra Platinum when my current Mobil 1 supplies run out since they use natural gas as the base oil. Some will say 5W-30 or 0W-30 depending on where you live.

I feel like this is like asking what kind of underwear you wear. Ask 10 different people you'll get 10 different answers. Just my thoughts

I have 115k on the clock. Been using Mobil 1 5w-20 since I got the car in 08 with 43k on it. It burns almost no oil.

Well that just disproves my underwear theory

I read somewhere that between 20 and 30, 20 will give better mileage and 30 less. Cost of better mileage is more engine wear.

Is it safe to go 5w30 in cold weather?

You don't need 30. Only very hot areas, like Texas to Southern California, need 30 weight. You need to focus more on the winter weight. If you go conventional, use factory recommended 5W-20. If you go synthetic, get 0W-20.

There is no engine wear difference between 20 and 30 at 70 degrees. Maybe at 110.

+1 to 007's answer, as usual.

I happen to use 0-20 synth, since I live in a colder climate. And yes, 30 will lower gas mileage a bit compared to 20.

I have been using 5W20 Mobil 1 since I got my 2005 With 106k on it. I developed a main seal leak at just over 150k. I probably should have used high mileage Mobil 1 since it has additives that help to keep seals from leaking as they age. Supposedly. I don't know if it would have helped or not but seems to make sense since the high mileage oil does have more additives. Who knows. I have always used regular Mobil 1 in all my cars and this is my first main seal leak.
