Not everything on the RL has an "Acura" logo
Noticed something funny today while I was filling up at the Shell station. The gas cap has the Honda "H" logo on it. A lot of mention has been made here of the fact that Acura finally got the "Acura" etching on the windows instead of "Honda" so I found it funny that they overlooked this little detail. I never noticed in the 1 1/2 years that I've had the car and it's not really a big deal to me, but would Audi have a VW logo on their gas cap?

It could be worse. A girlfriend way back in my highschool days who got a new car for graduation. It had Volare (Plymouth badge) on one side of the car and Aspen (Dodge) on the other side of the car. I called it the Plymodge.
She dumped me.

My parents' first and only new car was a '91 Cadillac Brougham.
When we took tdelivery of the car, we came up with a two page list of issues. Mostly cosmetic. Things like crooked pinstriping, a blob of caulking that was visible between the gap of the door and the front fender, a scuff that was sloppily touched up with paint.
You know what the dealer told us when we took it in?
THis is Cadillac, the premier domestic brand.
They said... "You guys are getting too picky".
This was a $31,000 car in 1991!!!!
I still remember that and it continues to undermine my faith in the dometic build quality.

Well the ting about the gas cap is nobody ever see its. When the windows said honda anybody in the car could see it so they probably dont see a point in changing them.

I wonder if TL's say "Honda" on them anywhere. I can't help but think that the fact that the RL is a re-badged Honda Lengend makes it more possible to have "Honda" on it somewhere. Since the TL is a full-breed Acura, I would bet it doesn't say "Honda" on it anywhere (other than the owner's manual for fluids, etc.)

BTW, my 96 Mercury Villager has fuse links that show "Nissan" logo instead of "Ford" or " Mercury"

The price increase on the 08 RL may be for the retooling for Acura badges on every little piece! I don't want the engine to say Acura, Honda makes the engines, and makes them great.
Maybe Honda needs a third brand name so they can start fresh at marking everything, HACURA.

The lenses on the side mirror directionals say Honda.....Hopefully all of the distinguishable parts can and will say Acura when they refresh the entire lineup..Also, did you notice when you open the trunk the white "warranty" labels have a Honda watermark also. That I didn't like, personally.

Acura has no assemby plants. None.
All Acura's are built aside Honda models by Honda North America or ARE Honda models built by Honda Japan and are rebadged. The RL is a Honda. It is rebadged to be sold as the RL.
Until Acura not only designs the car and then builds it in exclusive assembly plants, you will not see every plastic part, label and component with exclusive Acura representation. The most visable components likely will depict the Acura brand.
I doubt Acura will ever become a completely seperate brand.
However, I personally see nothing wrong with Acura's roots in Honda, Honda genes or shared components.

I just don't get it. Is it supposed to be a secret that we all purchased a fancy high end Honda? For me it was a conscience decision and I'd do it again.
My 2005 TL says Honda all over itself. Some people have mistaken it for a Honda. I know the difference.

Jeez. What does it matter what is stamped "Honda" or "Acura"? The windows and visible body parts probably should be marked "Acura" simply because those are the most noticeable to the discerning consumer looking for a high-end car. That's simply good marketing, which, as we all know, is not Acura's strong suit.
But small the gas cap and headlights and fuse endings? C'mon...... That would make the car prohibitively expensive to make every single part, even the ones deep in the engine compartment where you never go, marked as "Acura".
MR1 is correct. As long as YOU know the difference, that is what matters.
