Mileage Update Post

Please post your mileage and any issues you have had with the RL.

How about over 30,000 as a minimum.

Thanks.

Year, current Mileage, and issues. No need to have a minumum amount of miles to post. I'll start:

Year: 2005
Miles: 11,200
Issues: Battery drain from trunk release, rear headrest button not working (will be fixed at dealer this week).

(yep, put 2k miles in about a month. heh)

Mileage: 11,xxx (don't remember since I don't have the MID set to show the miles)

No real issues. Had them realign one of the windshield washer jet because it was aimed a little too low, a VERY faint little squeak on the rear package shelf. Had my passenger side door handle act up temporarily (wouldn't lock when touching the dimple), but it seems to be working now.

06, 6K. No issues other than the dealer had to replace my front spoiler, cuz they damage it putting it on the lift. Other than that, the car has been a jewel and very fun to drive. Normal driving the car feels much ,more powerful than it is.

I got every option that Acura makes for the TSX including the MP3 player and wood trim. Had my wheels chromed and installed those Super Computer peddles(nice)
Wired my fogs so they come on with the parking lamps. First oil change, went with mobil one.

05 RL, 21.5k miles

Issues:
  • Rear package shelf, rear sunshade, and shifter plate rattle (fixed)
  • Noticeable engine whine at 65-80 mph on throttle (new transfer case and transmission installed, issue much improved but not gone)
  • Windshield washer aimed too low (re-aimed my self with a small flathead screwdriver)
  • Rearview mirror has developed a spot where the liquid inside has apparently contacted the back of the mirror (dealer is replacing mirror assembly but is currently backordered)
  • Driver's door "wind noise"/vibrating sound (I may have found a solution to the wind noise and will share it if it works - the vibration in the door is still there)
It seems like a lot of issues but most are minor annoyances that all cars have from time to time. I love the car and really enjoy driving it every day.

2. Nov 29
a. After applying the sealant on both Ext/Int at the dealer, rattle noise came from passenger side chrome molding and dash board attached the right chrome molding. Fixed.
3. Dec 27
a. Squeaking noise from gauge cluster. Applied felt tape.
b. Reported the shudder at 1500 rpm. They couldn’t duplicate. Why? I still feel.
c. Water marks developed again(I live in rainy city Portland). Cleaned.
d. Passenger side dimple does not work. Replaced the handle
4. Jan 10 2007(scheduled)
a. The driver side door handle does not work after the above visit.

Issues: Driver's and passanger's door handle dimples spotty when tapping to open doors, both replaced under warranty

Brakes made high-pitched noise with light pressure, especially when starting car, replaced under warranty

Exhaust tips replaced under warranty, not because of soot problems on bumper, but just in case

Other than that hassle-free and worth every penny

Mileage 4500

Issues: Fuel gauge reset very slow once at 3000 miles - problem went away and has not recurred

Starting to get an intermittent driver's side dashboard rattle - irritating and looking for solutions on this website

Generally happy with the car but could use a slightly firmer suspension and bigger brakes. Maybe a mid-life upgrade project.

Oh yes - one more: driver's side door whistling sound when doing about 75 mph - mostly fixed by adding the grommets underneath the car. Great advice I got from this website ! Still get minor whistling but a lot less than before.

11,250 miles on 2006 Tech Pkg RL and so far the only issue has been occasional
slight engine knock solved by switching from Speedway and Shell gasoline to BP.

I've been filling up at Shell the last 6 months or so close to home (V-Power). The last few tanks were bought at Exxon and Mobil (93 octane) just because of where I was when I needed to fill up and I swear the car is running better. I thought that gas from the major oil companies was supposed to be relatively the same?

gas is gas. But the additives are wholly different from each manufacturer.
Aside from ethanol, the ratios and cleansers are different.

I get some knocking too using Citgo gas. Shouldn't the knock sensors retard the timing to compensate?

By the way, I have a 2006 with 1,800 miles. Zero problems...Zero complaints.

Incredible automobile!

Well, in the case of Citgo gasoline - it may be Hugo Chavez's way of getting back at the evil Yankees!

2006 RL, 3500 miles, I notice no engine performance difference related to brand purchase- as long as 93 octane put in tank,,,Citgo, BP, Exxon, Shell---all work, even the independents,,,Hess, Sheets, Wava,,,

I cannot tell a difference.

This car runs smooth!,,,

Well, the day I bought the car when pulling out of the dealer lot (literally…on my way home for the first time…actually second time as I took it overnight when I test drove it), just about every CMBS related warning light came on. I turned around, walked in and told my salesman (not too loud, but loud enough to make a point) “you sold me a broken car.”

It was relatively late, the night before Thanksgiving and all service people were long gone. I was given the option of taking the car and bringing it back in a couple of days or taking a loaner. I took the loaner ('06 MDX).

It took about a week to fix mainly for two reasons, first, the parts warehouse was closed on Thanksgiving and the Friday after so they didn’t even order what they needed until Monday (no fault of the dealer) then when the part arrived, they discovered (since they had never fixed one before) they didn’t have the necessary equipment to fix it (apparently you need special equipment and 34 feet of open space to properly calibrate it). Another couple of days until it was fixed but it’s been fine since.

Unfortunately, I can’t tell you exactly what went wrong other than it failed and they replaced the system. They did go out of their way to make me happy and I did get a free deck lid spoiler out of it, put a week’s worth of mileage on their car, and burned a tank of their gas so overall, I’m O.K. with it.

2100 miles, 1.5 months.

No mechanical troubles at all so far. One questionable rattle in the dash seems to have disappeared. There is a wrinkled (!!) chrome molding on the left rear door. The dealer said they would replace it at the first service.

Just returned from a 200+ mile road trip up the coast. Average gas mileage on Chevron Supreme 91 octane was 24.6 per the MID, and 25.0 by calculation at the gas pump. Used the ACC set to 72 mph most of the way, average speed overall was about 60.

For comparison, my 2004 TL would have gotten 29-30 mpg under similar conditions. Overall mileage for the first 2000 miles in L.A. commuting in the RL was just over 20 mpg (would have been around 24 in the TL). Fuel economy is really my only complaint about this otherwise near-perfect car.

BTW the ACC/CMBS system is awesome and really adds to the safety of the car. I'm very glad they only had the Tech model as I would not have spent the extra $$ otherwise. The CMBS has saved me once already from rear-ending some bozo with no brake lights in stop-and-go traffic.

2005 RL

120,188 miles

Slight whine from the fan or something in the engine compartment at 40 miles an hour, but only when first started in sub-zero weather. It just started a week ago and only happened a few times.

Around 50K there was a weird noise, like a dull squeak, coming from the driver side rear strut area when going over bumps at slower speeds. I sprayed lithium grease over all the moving parts and that took care of that.

Otherwise, the car has been great!

I drive it REAL hard and it runs like it's brand new.

Another issue I had, when the car was brand new, was wind noise coming from the drivers side rear door. The body shop tore the door apart and sealed up the leak. It took about a week to find the spot where the air was sneaking in and then working its way towards the window area. They had taped up the entire car, but the wind hissing noise still existed. They thought it was somehow coming from the front of the car and working its way to the rear door. Ultimately, it was fixed.

Also, at 10,000 miles, I had the passenger side handle replaced. The dimple wasn't working.
