Exclamation Maintenance Minder

On page 291 or 05 RL manual it is indicated that in addition of the Service Due Soon reminder letter there would also be a code number for other services needed.

My first service A1 was understood. Change Oil (A) rotate tires (1)

I have now reached 12,000 miles (don't drive much do I? but the miles are mostly
highway driving).

The Service due soon just illuminated with a "B" only, no number. Is that a possibility?

Makes sense to me that it should be possible but I understand the manual to indicate there would be a Letter and Number.

I can't directly answer your question because I cannot remember what my MID showed at those first two servicings, which in my case were done at 7,700 and 15,600 miles, but looking at the maintenance sub items in the Service Manual, the maintenance sub items being indicated by numbers, it could be quite possible that you don't need any of those maintenance sub items...there is a lot of stuff they are supposed to "check" in a "B" service.

For instance, according to the service manual, the number "1" is rotate tires under the maintenance sub items and an "A" service by itself doesn't include rotating tires, so you could get an A1, which is oil change only with no filter and rotate tires, but a "B" service includes oil change *and* filter, rotating tires and "checking" a bunch of other stuff.

Clear as mud, huh?!

"A" service is an oil change only. "1" is tire rotation.

"B" service is oil and filter change, tire rotation, and inspection.

I would still recommend changing the filter at every oil change.

Weird, the first maintenance minder I got was for Service B. I never got anything for A.

At what mileage did you get the "B" minder?
What was done for the "B" service and cost?

Thanks

That's about the same interval I've seen. In my case the first service was an A-1, oil change and tire rotation. The second was A-1-6, oil change, tire rotation, and differential oil change. I'm now at about 19,000 miles and have about 50% left on my oil life.

Good to know that the MID is giving others about the same intervals. These are a LOT longer than I've historically gone.

I don't remember without looking but it was around 6-7k I would guess. All they did was an oil/filter change as far as I know but I don't think I even read the bill. I can check on when I get to my car tonight after work.

Same here... Mine came on around 5500 miles. The dealer quoted me around $140.

I have 80K on my 05 and the only maintenance reminders I see are for oil change. Once within the first 10K I got reminder B. But nothing since.

Really?

I have gotten change differential oil at least once, and change air and cabin filters for sure in addition to the usual oil changes, tire rotations, and inspections.

I'm sorry for being dumb, but I have the A16 reminder. What does this mean? Is this the 16th A reminder or is it A and 1 and 6? Any help is appreciated.

It's probably important to mention that I already checked my manual and MyAcura.com... I just need a quick answer please.

A Replace just the engine oil.

B Replace the engine oil and the oil filter, rotate
the tires, inspect the front and rear brakes,
check the parking brake adjustment, and
inspect several other items listed in the O/M.

1 Rotate the tires.

2 Replace the air cleaner element, check the
drive belt, and replace the dust and pollen
filter.

3 Replace the transmission fluid and transfer
fluid (if equipped).

4 Replace the spark plugs, replace the timing
belt (if equipped), inspect the water pump,
and inspect valve clearance.

5 Replace the engine coolant.

6 Replace the rear differential fluid

I saw that, but what does it mean when it says "A16"? I don't see 16 anywhere so my question is whether this is the 16th A service reminder or does it mean that I need to do the A service + 1 service + and 6 service?

you are welcome. We just had a B 6 which is about the same and it cost about $240 in Salt Lake. Normally I do all my own maintenance but we were coming home from my dad's funeral in Arlington VA so we didn't feel like messing with it when we got home - and home was still a day's drive so we stopped. The dealer in Sacramento charges about the same. The differential uses special fluid from Acura now. There are a couple of threads on it.

Yes, you need to do A, 1 and 6.

A=Oil change
1=rotate tires
6=change rear diff fluid.

Thanks everyone. I hate asking dumb questions but now I'll know how to read that thing as long as I own the car. I am having my aspec suspension installed today so my mechanic will rotate the tires and he already told me he'd change my oil for free for referring some friends to him. Also, my differential fluid was changed very recently. $280 for everything. Not bad, eh?
