Looks like my RL is sold

037 - I am one of those guys that doesn't like pre owned, its one of my hang ups in life. I am sure your car is a great car, but I like to be the first owner, just something about knowing that no one has owned if before me.

I can't do black. Not for personal reasons, but for safety reasons. Black leathers in TX will literally burn your skin after sitting in a parking lot. Black exteriors can be tolerable, but you better not lean on the car. I had a hard time finding my RL b/c I had two requirements: no black interior, and no black exterior. And I like the way black looks...

well, if Black leather burns and grey leather doesn't...get better tints. I'm currently using Huper Optik 3 layer ceramic and they are easy to see through but block a larger portion of heat than comparable % tints. it's expensive but well worth it.
and yes, I am aware that the r-spec only comes with black interior...that did not sadden me at all.

Taupe... It doesn't matter what tints you have. The inside of cars here reach 150+ easy. I have the darkest legal one-layer tint, use a windshield screen, and always crack all 4 windows to let air through. Still you can't cover every ray of sun. Black and gray make a HUGE difference. Gray and Taupe are hot, don't get me wrong, but black is near scalding.

Sorry, darker wasn't the word I was looking for. My tint blocks 95% of light coming in and the metallic inside rejects 63% of solar radiation, the largest rejection percent provided by my tint shop. Huper Optik Ceramic only goes up to 61%, while the Klasse goes to 70%. So, even top of the line Huper, double stacked, would get me 91% rejection with 12.25% visibility and cost me double what you paid. What did you pay?
I understand what you are arguing, and it is valid for the back of the car. But what about the front? TX law requires 25% visibility in the front, and you can't tint past 5 in or the AS-1 line on the windshield, whichever is less. I can't say I have ever had a problem getting in my back seat and burning my legs, but then again, I don't get in my back seat very often. Needless to say, no matter what tint I put on my car, assuming it's legal, black leather will get extremely hot in the Texas heat.

Huper Optik cost me $400 and I generally don't wear shorts...so I haven't burned my legs in awhile.
But you seem to have went through all your options tint wise as it does sound scorching where you're at.
Hey...it was worth a try.

So, now that my RL is gone and my garage is empty, I must decide what I will do. I think on Sunday I will start test driving a few cars and get a feel for what decision I will make. I have been to several car lots and have looked at the cars I am interested in, but now it is time to test drive. Here is my list
Audi A6 ( possibly 2012 )
Acura ZDX tech
BMW 535i GT
Hyundai Genisis ( I am sure not sure I can own a Korean Car )
Infiniti M37x
Lexus GS350 AWD ( possibly 2012 )
Mercedes R350

Yeah, my shorts are usually long enough to not cause too many problems, but I like my lady to have as little clothes as possible. ! Also, getting in without a shirt on (coming from the river) can be dangerous.
It hit 100 here like June 10th or something, which is earlier than normal, and has been there everyday since. Hit 103 last week, and typically it will touch 113 in August, sometimes with 80-90% humidity. But alas, a cold front is moving in, and it looks like the low will hit 73!!! 80 is typical at night.

What would really kick ass if they added an equus type R package. Man 037 you should really sell hyundais, they really are doing something to their lineup. If I was going hyundai I would lean towards the equus mostly due to that it's a comfy ride, and I like how the interior is more squarish whereas the genesis uses more rounded shapes in their interior. I guess the only thing they could add to the equus is a longer body version to add even more space, maybe go crazy with an bigger engine.
I wonder how long hyundai is going to be competitive priced before they really start jacking up their prices, kinda feels like when lexus launched the ls series back in the day.

Equus is about to get the 5.0 engine from the r-spec. I was actually selling Hyundai's at a dealership on Sunday...problem was the dealership was closed, ehehe
The two older, much older women were listening very intently on how I explained the pit falls of buying, what car to look for, where to get all the right prices.
Hell, I even brought out my laptop for a quick price demonstration.
They couldn't believe I wasn't actually trying to sell them something...cause I think they were ready.

that's a sweet video. Genesis owners were saying bout 15% power loss and that seems right on the money. Good catch.
problem is...I was told they won't be out till November/December, the worst months to own RWD car...D'OH

Hyundai called me yesterday and left me a message. They asked if I had any questions that they could answer. I told them I was only possibly interested in the Rspec, I guess they don't listen. The fact that they also have never seen a Rspec in person doesn't exactly work in their favor.

plastikman, I ran out of patience today and bought the 3.8 Black/Black with premium and tech packages. After driving bout 60 miles today, I have to say...I won't be crying about the RL, at all.
The car is very quiet and you hit 80mph before you even realize. The acceleration is definitely much faster and the handling is much improved, even comparing against H&R springed 09. Bumps? What bumps? the ride is smoooth!!!
I thought I needed 429hp...but this thing is stupid quiet. I'm glad I didn't go for the V8 as you really don't hear or even feel the acceleration and the speedometer is small so your only warning will be a cop on your @$$.
Did I mention I got it $1500 under invoice with a "competitive other car owner" discount?
so basically I got it for around same price as the RL, 40k, and the MSRP was 44k.
now, some interesting facts.
The tank is 19.3 gallons and the sales rep was boasting how he topped it off with 21.5 gallons worth $95. I said bs!
he brought me a receipt and he wasn't shitting me...I mean he opened the gas tank and I could swear I saw gas come out a little bit.
told em to never do that again...
then as I was about to leave with the car, I couldn't turn the radio on, they had 5 ppl try, salesman even pulled a fuse out of a car right next to us and put it into my car.
I don't know what eventually was the cause, but the radio was working like 15 min later, still don't know the cause.
Otherwise...I think it's an excellent car for the money and I definitely don't miss the idea of a V8...I think it's gonna be more trouble than not.
it's fun to think of blowing away Mustang GTs without making any noise...but then again...you could have cops behind you.

I'm sorry, small as in 4.6 or the 5.0?
yes...they do, and 2012's aren't available yet. After driving DI 3.8 I see no reason to own a V8.
advertised mpg 19/29 and I was nowhere near it today.
I was supposed to break it in slowly but I caught my self at full throttle like 6 times...

037 - congrats on the car, does this mean you have two cars now ? I think what bugs these dealers about me is that I straight out tell them I am on no rush and that I want to take my time, I guess they don't think its good for their bottom line.
#112
yes, two cars at the moment but the RL is definitely for sale and if you come pick it up, I'll give it to you for 31k with everything that's already on it...and every single part I got. Dealer was offering me 26k for it and they didn't care much for the extended warranty so I know it's worth a good bunch more with it plus all the extras dealers have no interest in.
#115
This weekend I plan on visiting a few dealers. It is my intention to test drive a few vehicles, so I can start narrowing down what I would really like to get. I will be cruising around in my wife's 2011 Pilot and I can already see the "are you trading it in" questions. Hopefully in the next couple of months I will have made a decision.
#116
where I live plates are handed out by dealers on the spot with a temp registration sticker.
I even had choice of 3...
I guess it was a little used as I got it with 20 miles, test drove it for 3...so, a lil bit.
technically still the first owner.

From Hyundai - 2012 Genesis 3.8:
- Horsepower @ rpm 333 @ 6400
- Torque (lb.-ft) 291 @ 5100 (At the flywheel I assume)
- Weight = 3,824 - 3,971 lbs
From Insideline - 2011 Ford Mustang GT 5.0:
- Horsepower (hp @ rpm) 412 @ 6,500
- Torque (lb-ft @ rpm) 390 @ 4,250 At the flywheel
- 395 hp at 6,600 rpm
- 365 lb-ft at 4,350 rpm At the wheels (Dynoed)
- 0-60 = 4.8 sec
- Weight = 3,603 - 3,620 lbs
I can't find a 0-60 for the 2012 3.8, but I don't think you are going to hit 4.8 seconds with 333 hp at your flywheel. In other words, when you take on a GT who is trying, let us know how it turns out.
Sounds to me like you gained 33 hp, 19 ft-lbs, 10.1 cu. ft., 2/5 mpg over an '11 RL while losing SH-AWD, 3 speakers, 0.1 ft curb turning, .5" on your 18" x 7.5" wheels (1" on 17" x 7"), sport shifting, and the history that comes with a Honda.
Hope you like it; I can tell you already do. Hell, I found you on the Hyundai forum without even trying to: http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-gen...ead.php?t=7546
Correction: The base has 7 speakers. The premium package has 14, and the tech package has 17. So he gained 7 speakers.

spy, I was saying the V8 5.0 R-Spec would be a Mustang killer, C&D guesstimated 0-60 in 4.8 with Hyundai announcing 5.1
I never said the 3.8 will run with the Mustangs, nor do I think it's a good idea.
yes, i was pre-dispositioned for this car before I bought it, most of my cars I never test driven before buying.
It's a car, you get used to it...and if it's an RL...you fix it and then get used to it, then forget overnight.

on another note, I got 18" wheels, I've gained 7 speakers...hell, you're comparing to base 3.8
please add premium and tech package and try again.
the basics I've gained: front and rear proximity sensors, folding mirrors (think also present on 11 RL, which I do not have), definitely more power, much better fuel economy, HID low beams which actually level up and down based on how many ppl in car, RL once dropped points at the ground, tried this my self.
So...I haven't lost much, apart from Sh-AWD.
and with the Genesis badges on, I am now as anonymous as I was with the RL.
