Looks like my RL is sold
Well after about five years of owning my RL, it looks like it has been sold. The sale is a local private sale and it looks pretty solid. The RL has been a great car, one of the best, if not the best car I have ever owned, but it is time to move on. I normally never keep a car longer then three years, but the RL has been such a great car, so I kept it for five. The sale will be final this weekend, it is going to a nice couple who I know will take care of it and get great use from it. I have not yet decided what it will be replaced with, I will be car-less for a couple of months, the first time in my adult life that I have not owned a car. My wife has a brand new Honda Pilot Touring, so if I should need to use it, I can. The RL only has 32500 miles on it, it was my weekend car, during the week I drive a company car. I will still be around, no matter what car I decide to go with, I have been part of this forum for eight years and that is not going to change.

I have been reading your thoughts on the Hyundai Genesis 5.0 R-spec and although I am not a huge fan of Hyundai, I will go see it in person. One thing I always look at is the dealerships in my local area, that is about 35% of my decision if I will go wit a car or not. What else would you suggest ? Right now my list is broad and I mean very broad. BMW 535i GT, Mercedes R, Audi A6 ( 2012 model ) and possibly the Acura ZDX. I really would love to stay with Acura, but with their new design they have made it extremely hard to do so. I was waiting for the 2012 RL to come out, but with the disaster over there, it will be delayed a lot longer and I am no longer willing to wait.

well, if you want a comparable Sedan, Genesis is about as good as it gets for the price.
535 GT is wildly overpriced, you might as well consider the Audi A7.
The next best after the Genesis in my opinion is the Infiniti M37x in terms of quality and features.
as far as Acura, you can't do better than 2012 TL Sh-AWD as the RL is more expensive with practically the same features.
ZDX is not practical and MDX is always a good option if you need another SUV, but then again, you already have a Pilot which is an excellent choice.
I got a call from a Hyundai dealer telling me R-Spec is at least a month away, and since I registered on the genesisowners forum I've seen a couple of V6's pop up on the west coast.

I did go look at the Infinity M37x and it is a nice looking car, but I am not sure about dealership here, but it would be a contender. As for the TL, I did look at the 2012 and I like the front a lot better this year, but the cabin is just to small, it feels cramped coming from an RL. The BMW 535i GT is overpriced, but I think I could get a good deal if I went forward with a purchase, dealers are looking to move em. You are correct, the ZDX is not practical, but I am not looking for that, this is truly only a weekend car and I love the interior, but. . . . . . the front end, you know. I will check out the Hyundai 5.0 once it is available, I am in no rush and I would really like to see what the quality is like, you never know, I might change my mind.

Also, I forgot to mention, I went to Lexus and checked out the GS350 AWD and I have to say, it is a beautiful car and could come into play, depending on a few things. One thing is, my mother in law works for Toyota/Lexus and might be able to pull some strings, that however is wishful thinking.

I have to see the Hyundai, in the past I was not impressed with the quality of their cars, but at $47,000 I am thinking they have improved. It sure does look nice and the Rims aren't to shabby either.

the other day I was looking on ebay at some used 550i's and you can get a nice deal on those and skip all the turbo engine headaches.
360hp up to 2010 and 400hp twin turbo in 2011. Those 2010's might be a steal...
and then the R-Spec will blow you away...

Nice little list you guys have going but I have to agree, the new TL does not provide the same roomy feel as the RL. When driving the RL I feel like I'm in a cockpit, when driving the 4th gen TL I feel like I'm in a midsized sedan LOL

I just spoke with a couple of local Hyundai dealer in my area and they have no clue about the 5.0 and when it comes out. I plan on being in a new car within a couple of months, so I don't think I will even see it before I make my decision.

New Jersey tells me they got 3 coming over in the next 2 weeks...one is Black on Black.
My woman freaked when I told her what the monthly payment would be over 3 years...guess I shoulda fudged the numbers a bit.

Sorry to read you are moving on, plastik. Having done so myself, I can understand it. All the RL OGs are gone except Chas2, I guess.
I wish i could go carless. However, that'd be like a heroin addict with no meds. I'd just go into car withdrawal, and driving the wife's Pilot would be no fun at all.
I finally read up on the Genesis R-Spec. Holy s**t! Now THAT will be a sport luxury car. It's honestly what I was hoping the RL would turn out to be by the end of its product run. Alas! No such luck.

I really wanted to wait and see what the 2012 RL would look like before I made my decision, but Acura has a lot of problems in Japan right now and no one knows when they will actually start up production again.

I'm still keeping my RL - I know I don't post much between reading this website and the SC430 website but I still really like our 06 RL and I have the extended warranty on it until 2014 so I'll be holding onto the RL till then. 66,000 one owner miles and still loving it everytime I get in the drivers seat.

I just drove our Pilot cross-country two weeks ago. As much as I love Hondas, it was a soul-sucking experience compared to driving the CTS-V or the S2000.
Thanks for reminding me. I'm waiting, too, to see what 2012 brings. I will be supremely pissed if Acura goes another year without change to the RL in a segment where the other players have moved on or significantly improved. Once the V is paid off and warranty exhausted, it will become a higher HP toy (goal: 700+ whp) and I'll be back in the market for a daily driver. I hope it will be an Acura....but it's sure not looking good for that right now.

I'm not waiting for the next RL. I like the look of the A7 a lot. Even if Acura debuts the next RL next year, I wouldn't buy the first model year after all the issues with my old 05 RL. At this point it looks like either the A7 or maybe an MDX.
#31
I of course have looked at the A7 and I can only say that it would be a great decision if you did go with that. As for the MDX, it is one of my top five SUVs and if my wife hadn't gotten an 2011 Pilot touring, I'm pretty much sure it would have been the MDX.

if your buying a weekend car.. get a Porsche Cayman R... heck, a standard Cayman S would kick a$$.... do you have kids and need backseats... if so, forget the Cayman... I've got three kids...so my Cayman days are quite a ways off.... like way off..
#33
I would love nothing more then a nice new Porsche, but my wife would not be so supportive. We plan on having kids in the next year, so I have to get a four door. There is of course the Porsche Panamera, but that's just wrong.

plastikman, hope u don't mind but I'm going to hijack your thread a bit
looks like my RL is sold as well...
drum roll please...
I talked to my mom about me buying a new car and she flipped out about me selling the RL...so she wants it
I guess my brother will be driving it after I get rid of his Civic.
Another happy ending and I don't have to worry about someone feeding it 87.
