Lights on the heater/AC controls died.. help

Well i had my lights on the heater/AC controls died. So at night time i cant really see my control buttons.
There was couple that went 1st like the red part of the up and down button. Then couple of other ones.. Now all of them are out. Now even my drivers side seat heater button died.
Has anyone changed these lights and know what bulbs they take?
Is it somenthing easy i can do myself?

It has been done. You have to order certain LEDs and take off the front of the control console and surrounding trim. I'm pretty sure Heavy has done it.

I still think this is BS that on a 50K + car that these bulbs go out. I am in the same boat and my RL has 77k miles on it. Even with my extended warranty they are not covered. I have never had any other car have this many dashboard bulbs go out. If they were meant to be replaced it would be easier to replace them without having to take the entire center console apart. When I go into the dealer next I need to throw the "So you are telling me I should buy a Merc of BMW next" comment at them when they tell me again that is will be about $200 plus to replace them all.

LoL, nice rant... let us know how that works out.

I'd rather replace a bulb then have to service a beemer.

I've done it before and it's time consuming for just bulb changes. But glad its done and didn't spend $$$ at the dealer.
Here's my thread for more info...

I have often wondered if these would work....but you would have change everything to keep the color the same, at least panel by panel.

Would this be considered "instrument panel illumination bulbs" because those are covered under extended warranty. Might just mean speed, tach, etc and not the center cluster. Agree with you that it is ridiculous they go out after just a few years.

I'm in the same boat. My A/C Off and A/C Recirculate buttons' backlights are dead.

I recently got my passenger seat heater switch backlight replaced by an independent mechanic and that worked out OK - got the OEM bulb from Curry Acura. But now my low setting seat heater bulb has died and that'll need to be replaced as well.

Oh well.

Here are the part numbers for the seat heater bulbs:

35850 SED J01 (14V 40 mA, Bulb A, A) ( these are the backlights for the seat heater)

35602-SJA A01 (14V 60 mA, Bulb B, B) (these are the hi-lo setting seat heater bulbs)
Alternate part number for Bulb B, B is 35851-SFA -003

Hope this helps someone.

If anyone has a good pdf of how to take off the center console and get at the climate control unit, please post. i looked at the links referenced in some of the related threads but got a "not authorized" error when I tried to look at them.
