A LEGEND is born!!
A LEGEND is born!!
I finally got around to ordering a JDM badge for the trunk lid so that my '06 could declare that it is in fact a LEGEND!! (See new avatar.) My own not-so-subtle hint to Acura that I'd like to see them ditch the meaningless alphanumerics and give their cars names again.

Vigor and Inspire were each versions of the TL-to-be.

Now, could we please talk about LEGENDS??

A group of us discussed rebadging our RL to LEGEND a few years ago. There was a group buy for the LEGEND badge. Not sure where to find them now....but I have seen a few pop up on Ebay.
I waited because if I rebadge as LEGEND, I also want to replace my carpet floor mats (embroidered RL) with LEGEND mats. It was difficult to find left hand drive LEGEND mats, and when I did, they were north of $375 US (with shipping).
Now that my RL is turning 4 soon, I can use new mats. I am exploring some high quality custom floor mat vendors to see if they can embroider LEGEND in the correct font. If I fin, and price is less than $125, I will remove all traces of RL badges and it's association to power phlegm siblings.
Also...LEGENDS do have the SHAWD badge as well.

I had 2 Legend Coupes, (88 and 95) loved them both. If I ever get an RL I'd like to rebadge it too. I'd consider spacing it across the silver trim piece over the lic plate, and debadge the other stick-on lettering.
I saw a new 07? RL one day on the dealer lot that had LEGEND door sills. I guess it was a production mistake. It had the protection plastic still on. Looked cool tho.

LEGEND all day! And getting some Legend floor mats would be awesome. For my 94 Legend, people refuse to make floormats with LEGEND embroidered in it with the correct font because it is copyrighted so you might have a little trouble with that.

I am exploring a few options.
1) Custom fit mats with no embroidery
2) Obtain the metal LEGEND badge used on European, JDM or Aussie LEGENDS and stitch it over the RL badge. (however, it appears too small).
3) Located and obtain left hand drive OEM LEGEND floor mats.
Previously, I mentioned I tried to locate left hand LEGEND mats via a European contact....very pricey, and I abandoned.
However, I located an Aussie Honda Dealership just outside of Sydney, and have made an inquiry if the can accept overseas orders and ship. I expect it will also be pricey. We will see.
I will be in Sydney in a few weeks....I may have to bring an extra suitcase...cheaper than shipping!

Sadly I think thats the whole reason the RL never really took off.
You ask anyone about a Legend and you'll see em remenisce about how they wanted or owned one back in the 90's
Not for nothing but when I saw a TL back in 96 i thought it was what replaced the Legend and I was like WTF! How can you go from a super sexy Legend to that!
Even Lincoln went with the letter t hing and I cant even understand what they used to be! I like Zephyr, now its like mk.....mj.....zz..... what???
Ummm, that would be because I took off the bogus RL crap and put something on that actually makes sense.
Debadged cars look to me like they've been rear-ended, Bondoed, painted at Earl Scheib, and put back on the road without bothering to get the details right.
I've gone back and forth with the idea with re-badging my '06 RL to LEGEND. Plusses are the history of the name (both the car itself and the fact that this would be my 3rd Legend); it would be unique and send personal statement about the lameness of Acura's marketing going from real names to alpha-numerics in an attempt to force you to say the brand name.
Minuses are I'd be forever worried that I didn't get it perfectly straight (to the point that I'd order a new set of RL letters in case it didn't work out); I rather like "stock"; it wouldn't match the mats; and the car would no longer bear my initials on the outside (although the mats would then appear to be monogrammed, which some people thought they were).
Needless to say I haven't pulled the trigger, but with Tampa going this route it could be hard to resist.
I lean with Vodoc on the de-badging. That might only have looked good on a Merkur XR4Ti.

Funny thing, the LEGEND logo wraps beautifully along the sensual, rounded surface of the trunk lid. Yet from certain angles (because it is going away from you due to the curvature of the surface) it can look as if you applied it with a few degrees of downward list. That might drive a compulsive person slightly--uh, shall we say--more compulsive.
Then you can look around at all the other stinking badges on the road and see that some tilt up, some tilt down, and some are just dead level. My advice: look at some pix of Honda LEGENDS for guidance, and just slap that bad boy on there!
P.S. Kudos to Tampa for finally taking the plunge.
Paybacks are a bitch.
It's your FAULT, Rob, that I got the wood steering wheel. And regretted all the time I waffled over it.IMHO, it is stock....as it is a LEGEND outside N/A and China. My overseas associates all know what a LEGEND is. None of my US associates knew what an RL is until I said it was the LEGEND. Good Job Ass-cura!
Getting it straight is simple. Before you remove the RL badge, affix a few inches masking tape (same length as the LEGEND badge) below the RL badge for the positioning and simply use a level to check the tape is true. Then remove the RL badge and prep the spot for the LEGEND badge. Use the tape as your baseline for the LEGEND position.
Oh...and I did have a Merkur XR4Ti! And nearly a Scorpio. Loved to drive them, hated the constant repairs. That was then last of my German cars.

(I was really keen on the XR4Ti back in the day - loved the shape and that double-wing, just not the name).

MARE - KOOR.....MER - KOOR.....MER - KER.........
Speaking of which, there should be a JDM Legend emblem coming my way for eventual attachment to my vehicle's sensual hinder.
