LED Red/Amber Lamps

I noticed that Infinity is advertising that all of their models now use LED's at the rear for safety. It is a known fact that they react quicker than incandecent bulbs and that equates to 15 to 20 feet of stopping distance at freeway speeds. The RL and TL both have Red LED stop lights. If you use the same theory to turn signals then why does the RL have bulbs and the TL have LED's?
It is also a recogned safety feature, for reaction times of other motorists, that the turn signals be of an amber color but the TL has red and the RL has amber!
Again we are seeing the RL as a "world" car from Japan and the TL a US car for US. If the car companies accept the safety issues of LED's and their respective colors then why don't they standardize - especially Acura who is also touting safety?

I would imagine that the bulbs vs. LED on the turn signals was more of a cost thing.

Are you sure that the TL turn signals are LED's? I think they are incandescent bulbs.

Isn't it more important to have the brake lights as LEDs because of their time to activation? Just saying....

Yes, no real benefit on the turn signals that I can think of???

LED turn signals do provide earlier warning to SUV drivers who might have been thinking casually of cutting you off...they can whip into place a few milliseconds faster...

BTW the TL does have incandescent turn signals, at least my '04 did.

Since when does using signals make any difference to other drivers on the road? Most of these Einsteins are too busy on the cell phone, PDA and eating. I believe the rule of thumb is : Using turn signals is a sign of weakness. Stop signs, traffic lights and lines in the road are merely suggestions. And Right of Way means 'if I think I can fit my car there...I'll go for it'.

Ugh...sorry, just home from my daily combat commute.

You must have thought that you were in the BMW forum.
I hope all RL users use their turn signals, I just hope that a sideswipe is not caused by the milliseconds difference of not having LED's at the rear. BTW we have LED's on the mirrors.

Timing is everything, even milliseconds. The biggest argument aganst amber turn signals is the fact that only a small percentage even use them so color becomes a smaller issue. When you drive in the rain on a busy 5 lane freeway you will soon realize the value and safety aspect of amber turn signals. When you have done that, you will then realize the value of the LED's instead of incandesant bulbs.
The manufactureres know it too but they have a supply of bulbs they need to use up and the junket in Hawaii was paid for by the bulb supplier. Sorry too cynical. (but true)

Agree!! I use my signals just like I learned way back in driver ed, even though it does tip off the enemy. Love those side blinkers, the lack of them was a major screw-up on the 2004-06 TL.

The stats on motor vehicle injuries are appalling...in the US alone there are 3 million injuries severe enough to require a trip to the ER, and 42,000 deaths, per year...every year...and we still allow idiots with testosterone storm to drive 8,500 pound farm vehicles with huge V8s, jacked up high enough to take out your head...

Perhaps you missed my sarcasm. I do indeed signal, allow drivers to pass, and wave thanks for a tricky merge. I was referring to most other drivers I encounter of late. Every single day I feel like someone is taking a swipe at my life. Although I would be grateful for a millisecond saving my life, me thinks the dangers of other drivers' inconsiderate driving habits is a far, far greater threat.

I agree with you completely, it seems that driving is a chore to most but an art to some. Is there a state that actually demands that you can drive before they give you a license? In California you only have to find your way to the DMV and the documentation and benefits come rolling in.

Acura had the chance to introduce its first LED turn signal with the new MDX, but they didn't

I know I'm being picky here but Infiniti does offer LED turn signals on their FX. It's just one of those that use brake lights as turn signals like many American cars (i.e. Cadillac). But, I'd rather see separate turn and brake light LEDs like the E46 coupes (2003.5 - 2006). Too bad they went backwards with their current gen.

Thats true, but like you said Infiniti use the same unit as brake light and turn signal, which i've noticed many manufactures try to avoid when introducing new vehicles.
I dont even know if that counts, but look at the 2006 BMW 3 series with LED brakes and separate turn signal unit. Audi A8, VW Pheaton, VW Passat and Jetta

Well, it's a shame. You'd think more car companies would implement LED turn signals by now. In fact, they should have 'em on the front, too. Like the Kia Amanti.

I think we'll be pushing our luck then. Probably in 5-10 years we will see these changes.
