K&N filter good or bad?
K&N filter good or bad?
Hi guys
i use to have a K&N filter on my previous Toyota
honestly... i don't feel any differences either performance or mileage
just want to see som feedback among follow RL owners
tks

it lets more air in.
which means smaller particles can get in.
the limiting factor isnt the air filter, its the throttle body.
so having a filter that moves more air isnt going to get passed the small throttle body.
to make power, you need cooler air.
cooler air is denser air!

Never heard of them... https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-2005-2012-76/k-n-engine-filter-question-852315/
Plus more air in does nothing if you cant add more fuel and let more air out.

Again. For every demonstration that has been done to show the amount of particles let through by aftermarket filters, there is one showing the same results for stock ones. I have heard it and seen it disproved.Heavy, while I agree with the letting air out, I am going to call
on the RL not giving more fuel. How did that comptech s/c add 50 hp to an unmodified ECU?

I have had K&N's in past cars and there is no tangible performance improvement. I got suckered because I liked them on my motocross bikes in the past. What works well on a dirt bike may not on a smogged and highly engineered Acura.
Search youtube and you can't find any K&N .vs. stock results that come anywhere close to what is claimed. It's essentially the same performance and yet you can foul up a MAF sensor and cleaning the filter takes time because you need to completely dry the filter before reoiling- your car is offline for hours. So no performance gain, inferior filtering over stock, and 3x initial cost (when you factor recharge kit).

Do u guys think a true CAI would be a worthwhile mod?
I ran a K&N on a prior car and I really don't think I noticed any gains at all.... I am referring to the drop in filters that go into the OEM airbox.
I did put an aem intake onto my old Honda prelude years ago and that seems to add a marginal amount of top end power ...

I believe the RL was engineered well enough that a simple mod such as dropping a CAI isn't going to make a difference. The stock setup is already designed to bring in "cold" air. The inlet is right at the front of the hood between the battery and headlight.
The only proven performance gains here from a CAI were done in conjunction with the 5zigen exhaust and showed 12hp at the wheels. I would put money on the exhaust giving 10+ of that.

Still miss it.
A K&N does flow more air than a paper filter, after both have some dirt/dust on them. New, not much difference, if any.
We've been using a K&N on our vehicles that go offroad for years. The difference in gas mileage and throttle response is tangible.
