Jinxed myself...door handle issue

Just the other day I was scoping out the forum and said to myself that I was lucky to not have any of the door handle issues likes some of you guys on here...and boom!! today my driver side unlock sensor doesn't work. The sensor button (bubble) to lock the car works on driver door but not unlock. Passegner side works for both unlock and lock sensors. Fuse 7 is not blown but replaced just in case. My keyless access remote flashes in the MID about 30% of the time, usually goes away after I open and close the door or make a complete stop after I intially drive it. The weird thing is that it lets me start the car keylessly but then flashes that the key is missing. any solutions or troubleshoots????

this doesn't sound like a door handle deal...

how old is your FOB battery?
Is the FOB near a cell phone?
did you re-sync it for good measure?

I agree with Heavy, does not sound like handle issue
interference from cell phone seems likely culprit as low battery in fob would get warning in MID

Is fob in same pocket as cell phone?
That could cause door not to unlock.

no I tried it with the key itself in hand right by the door and still nothing. walk over to the passenger side and it works perfect. No cell phone, no electronics around the fob

I know you clarified, but for the record, an electronic interference with the fob will keep you from locking/unlocking.

Its weird that half of the sensor works and the other half doesn't I wonder if there is two different sensors and the one for the unlock is out.

There definitely are two different sensors. One is the "button" on the outside and the other runs the length of the handle on the inside. I doubt you can replace one without the other. I see a new handle in your future.

tla11384 - I am having the exact same problem on my '05 RL. Added to this though are that it seems to be a bit intermittent for me. The one thing I have noticed, is that the unlock is more likely to work if the handle is wet (been raining). The lock function works perfectly. Like you, both unlock and lock work well on passenger side. I think oo7spy is right about our future.

guess what.? it happen to rain here in montana today and now the unlock sensor works again. the odd issue is that the lock bump is now inop for the driver side. everything still works on the passenger side....really ccontemplating in getting that aftermarket warranty.

No warranty = no bitching when it fails.

There has to be something in the handle that is making a poor connection, or something on the outside is making contact that shouldn't. The operation, from what I understand, works as a capacitor. The handle holds a tiny charge, and when something touches it that is grounded, it discharges and trips the logic. Either something on the inside is not charging it every time, or there is something else touching just enough to discharge it or keep it from charging.

Debugging it would be a total bitch and it may not even be possible to fix. The part is $200. If you love the feature, you could pay, but if you are indifferent, I would pull the fuse before it gets worse and drains your battery or gives you the crazy alarm.
