I hate people!

Both of my boys play travel hockey. Yesterday they both had games so I took the Landcruiser. My wife meets me at the first game with my car. I then take my other son to the second game still in the Landcruiser, and my wife and son go to lunch with his hockey team at a restaurant that is a sponsor.

This morning I'm taking out the trash, and I open the garage door where my car is parked (we back my car into that spot). I immediately see that my car is hit. There is a bunch of white paint transfer and a nice gouge in the bumper cover. The little cap that covers the tow hook is also hanging off.

My wife took special care to park in a parallel spot as to not risk door dings, and apparently someone backed into the car when they were either trying to park or when leaving. She didn't notice it because she approached the car from the rear and never walked along the front of it. I probably wouldn't of noticed it either since I normally just get in my car in the morning, open the garage door and leave, but since I was putting garbage out to the curb, I opened the overhead door while I was doing it.

We contacted the restaurant to see if they have any video surveillance. They're going to call us back when the manager gets in, although I'm not holding out much hope. It probably doesn't matter since Michigan is a no-fault state.

I took it in for an estimate and the bumper cover will need to be replaced. When all is said and done, it'll be around $1,000. Not a big deal from a damage perspective and my deductible is $250. It just pisses me off that some people would just damage your vehicle and leave, and now i have to make a claim.

I hate douchebags who perpetrate hit and runs. A couple of weeks ago, I caught some guy backing into another persons car while trying to get out of a parking spot and as he was driving away, I yelled at him to leave his info, but he just ignored me so I took down his plate number and left it for the owners of the car.

Having had to pay the deductible and seeing our convertible as well as my TSX get hit numerous times by morons who park by braille, I have a particular disdain for drivers who fail to demonstrate common courtesy and try to sneak away from their responsibilities.

Sorry to hear Hawks,,,,I feel your pain. It amazes me how irresponsible so many people can be.

I recently witnessed a woman backing her SUV into a Toyota Corolla. She was on the cell phone, while backing up in a congested parking lot with many pedestrians and her 2 toddlers in the back seat. Not only was she not aware of the hitting the Corolla, nor the people shouting and waving at her, she GUNNED the SUV (yes in a congested parking lot) when slow reverse seemed to be delaying her (perhaps it was the itty bitty Corolla slowing her down) further destroying the Corolla, and pushing it into 2 other parked cars. Witness still shouting, she drove off, chatting away.

Somehow I do not see how 'accident' applies. 'Accident' seems to absolve people of responsibility...which seems to be all but lost by today's drivers.

I certainly hope that phone call was important.

No chance. If it was important, she should have made it before pulling out of the parking spot and putting other vehicles, pedestrians, and possibly her children at risk.

I often wonder these days, how women (no offense but it seems that momen spend a lot more time on the phone when driving than men) drove before the invention of the cell phone. My favorite is the young girl driving with the phone in one hand, the make-up in the other, and a cigarette hanging from her lips.

I use bluetooth.

It's possible that the offending numbskull didn't even realize they hit you....but with pieces falling off the car, that stretches the imagination.

I've certainly witnessed my share of people driving into other cars blissfully unaware that they've done so.

I get to work early and park in a wide space to protect against door dings. The result of my being careful (which duplicates itself in parking lots all over town):

You just can't get far enough away from some people.....

I agree Rob, likely the idiot did not even know they hit Hawks car. The plastic bumper facias most cars have absorb the sensation of metal hitting metal. On the other hand...it could have just been Britney Spears?

I am with you Rob, I get into the parking garage early to park in one of those isolated spaces. On a day when I get in later, I am torqued off someone else has parked there!

And don't you hate when you park on an end spot, way over the edge and some %$$%!!! crosses over their spot to park right on top of you anyway? (as the Mercedes in your pic).

So much for relaxing on my day off...I need therapy now!

Rob144, you are asking for trouble with that car cover.... It's like a magnet for morons.

I'm in early and get a parking space that is sideways to the rest at my work, so that really helps.

One time I came back out to my car just in time to save it from being hit by a runaway shopping cart.

Some good news in all of this is that based on my policy (i.e. Michigan Insurance) my deductible is waived since it's not my fault. so it won't cost me anything.

The bodyshop was referred by my local Acura dealer, and they also happen to be a preferred bodyshop for my insurance company, so the repair will carry a lifetime guarantee. The insurance adjuster will also inspect my car AFTER it's repaired to ensure that the bodyshop did a good job.

So at most, it looks to be a minor inconvenience.

The restaurant stated that they have surveillance at the front of the building, but not in the parking lot, so no luck catching the idiot.

As for the person who hit my car, hopefully karma turns out to be a bitch for them.

I could see where some overlap may occur in narrow spots but those are rather wide parking spaces. no excuses there.

Some fool backed into the front of my Murano down on the Jersey Shore (Spring Lake) while we were on the beach. Unfortunately for them, my Murano has bumper bars. So while they may need a small paint job to fix their bumper, the paint transfer on my bumper bar was pretty much cleaned off after the next trip through an automatic car wash.

Some people are such morons. . . .

Saturday evening I was leaving the theater and driving down the street next to the parking garage. This guy steps off the curb right in front of my car. I see him and stop in time and he steps back and makes a threatening gesture. As I drive by him, he bangs both his fist on the back of my trunk. Given that it was late and dark, I decide to ignore it and drive on.

The next day, I see 2 dents on the trunk lid. Cost me $100 dollars to have them repaired today.

Just yesterday I was going to Costco to do a lil shopping and my gf got annoyed that I didn't want to park next to anyone. I explained to her that my last 2 cars ( both TL's ) got door dings the 2 times I parked next to someone. I know its anal, but I just think in the long run it is worth the walk. Hawk, I feel your pain, hope they have some tape on this guy, he would deserve getting caught.

Something like the product in the second link would have worked for me, but for the front.

People can be very ignorant, jealous more or less.

While out in my NBP MDX at the local gym, I came back to do my once around inspection, I was horrified to find a key mark from the front passenger headlight to the rear passenger taillight. I am not sure what would possess someone to do something like that? To me it makes no sense. I was very angry at myself for parking so close to the front of the store, it should not be this way.

My passengers laugh at me, too, when I park far away in the parking lot. I don't care, though. The walk doesn't bother me in the least. I have had asshole people park next to me though, just to spite me. One person in a huge black SUV did that to me at Home Depot once....I was parked waaaayyyyy out in the middle of nowhere on purpose, and this idiot parked nearly on top of me.....really pissed me off.

I know there are more than a few of us neurotic owners, though. Last weekend I had my sister with me when we stopped at Wegmans. I parked near the back of the lot, and my sister said, "I knew you were going to do that." I had parked next to a TL, hoping they'd respect my car, since the lot was nearly full and I had nowhere else to park where there weren't any cars around. When we came out of the store, the TL was gone, but there was a TSX and an RL next to me, and I pointed that out to my sister who just shook her head like I was crazy. Some people get it, some don't.

You guys should see some of the cars in NYC. More than 1/2 have bumpers that have been scratched up to death (mainly because most of our parking is parrallel). People just have no respect for your property here.

Just remembered one from awhile back......

I was actually sitting in my car once when someone opened their door into me.....it just shows you how oblivious some idiots are. Being 6'8" and 250, I put quite a scare into the woman until I saw there was no damage.

When I shop with my wife, I drop her at the door and go park where I want to:
  • I look like a really nice guy
  • I get to park where I want to park (father away)

When we're almost done at check-out, I go get the car and meet her at the door.

I do the same thing, but my wife sees through the "nice guy" thing. She knows there's ulterior motives.

I agree with you, but be glad it was a parking mishap. Some moron hit me in the rear at about 40 mph when I was blocked by a dump truck a couple months ago. I was driving my 99 TL. A couple weeks of whiplash, and I was as good as new, so I think the safety features are pretty good. Now, with my brand new 08 TL, I'm dreading what you've just gone through. Back to reality, I guess.

Well went into the bodyshop today. I get to drive a Mazda 6 for a few days. It's actually not a bad little car, just not my RL. I should get it back by Tuesday.

Body shop called and it's done!! Yippee!!!

I'm so excited you would think I'm going to pick up a new car.

The Mazda 6 was OK, but it was basically an appliance. I can't wait!

Congrats Hawks. Think of it as having sent your babe for spa treatment (I hope you do that for the wifey too!).

I know being out of my RL for 5 days with an MDX made me think I was again in a new car....and how much I love my RL.
