car has 1000 miles and has the tech package, what do you think is a fair price.

That's a tough call. But given that many of us got non-Tech '06's brand new for $40k or slightly less, and further given that the fact the car has been used as a loaner offsets the Tech Pkg. cost (at least in my book), and the '07's have been out there for awhile, I'd still say you should be able to get it for well under $40,000.

Loaner use, as far as I'm concerned, is worse than demonstrator use, since cars are usually demo'ed with a salesman in the car. Loaners are often viewed by customers as an opportunity to "see what she'll do". Sure, there's always a warranty to bail you out, but damage done early in the game can bite you later. Now, an RL isn't as likely to be run hard as a TL or TSX, but it happens.

If I were you and wanted the car, I'd offer something like $37.5 -38k and see what kind of reaction you get. Get some freebies, like oil changes, or maybe even an extended warranty, thrown in if you plan to keep the car awhile.

1,000 miles isn't a lot, and the car is probably fine, but use your concern as leverage. Face it - they're having to seel this car as "used", and you should get a good deal on it.

If you're going to pay $40,000 or so on a car, just buy a NEW one and have the peace of mind that goes with knowing that everything that goes wrong is YOUR fault

I agree with Tex... I'd say 37.5 (mainly because we all know how people treat 'rental/loaners'). I'd go as high as 38.5 -39 if they agreed to throw in 100K warranty. I'd make that a must.

X3 in agreement with Mike.

While I treat loaners with respect (someone's going to buy that car someday), many people don't. That 1k miles could have been a HARD 1k miles. Then again, it will likely be just fine.

Offer them 38K with a 7yr 100K extended warrenty thrown in. This should ease your fears over the previous miles on the car.

Hello,

Right now you can get the car for a good 36-37K. I bought my Rl on DEC28 and missed up becuase I paid 41K fpor a tech package. I know I could have done way better than that. But I eblieve you can get the car for that price and go to the dealer and kick ass and you will get the deal you want for the price you like. By the way, where is this dealer? I can probably help you if live near Los Angeles. Let me know.

41K for a brand new 06 RL with a tech package was a great price!

How are you guys getting and RL for 41K? I'm looking at stickers of 52K for a 07. Are they end of year close outs? I checked Colorado is plum out of 2006's. Thanks for your help.

Keep in mind the 06 has $4000 of dealer cash in it. So a brand new 06 still sitting should easliy for 10K under MSRP. Then you get to ding him for the loaner. Every try to trade a car within the first year of buying it? Think of how the dealer dings you for it in trade. This is your chance to get some of that back! I'd agree with the upper 30 comments.

jbintegra - They are having issues moving these cars. With some effort, you shoudl be able to find a dealer that will sell you at near invoice. Then you can go back to your home dealer and see if they will match it.

If you want an '06, consider going out of state. If you can find one, you should be able to pick it up for $10,000 or more off list with little effort. You could do a deal over the phone or internet, then fly over and drive it back.

It takes a little work to get it registered and inspected in your home state, but it would be worth it for the savings.

Many of us who got RLs late last year (myself included) got leftover 2006s.

The $52k sticker for the 2007 you're looking at is for a "tech package with PAX and CMBS" model.

You will almost certainly have to travel to find a new 2006 at this point, if there are any left. You may be better off at doing an email blast like I did to get the lowest possible price on a 2007. I used Edmunds' pricing service and by chance, my dealer gave the best deal--I got a good deal and the dealer got to keep a loyal customer.

You can also use Carsdirect.com to find a reasonable price for a 2007 in your area--just plug in your ZIP code. In my ZIP, though, the current offer is MSRP for all models, unfortunately.

You can only buya car out of state with at least 7,500 miles on it. If you are going to go out of California I would suggest, doing alot of checking on the facts DMV is very difficult.

Hmmm. I wasn't aware of that. Another of the joys of living in the Golden State, huh.

Yes, California like everything else has to be different. The only way you can buy out of state besides the 7500 mile rule. Is if your vehicle is stolen, destroyed out of state then you can buy and bring new in. This pertains to motorcycles too. There are even some vehicles new that you can't buy in california. One I know of is VW diesel can't get...

The dealer is selling the car as new, since it was never registered and want to start negotiations at 42.5k. I'm thinking the 38k is a fair price and will see if they take my offer, i'm located in the san fernando valley, but i think i waited too long and may have to wait until the next sale

Fck that, 42.5 on an '06 is wayyyyy too much especially when you consider that the rebate is still applicable to this model.

Next sale? Face it ... the '07 model year is in full swing and every passing minute an '06 is on the dealer's lot it's beginning to stink more in terms of saleability and profit margin. The dealer is sweating. He's already tried to hedge his bet by making it a loaner, but he knows if he gets too many miles on it he runs the risk of taking a bath.

He's at the tipping point right now - already a couple of months into the new model year, 1,000 miles on the car, and a customer who has expressed at least some interest in it. Go in for the kill ... tell him you know he needs to move the car and if he'll "get right" with the price you'll take it and let both of you get on with business.

$38k MAX.

If you go through this site you will see what people just paid for that vehicle in the last few months and they weren't loaners. If you are looking at Keyes dealer... I would pass and look for a 07.
