Heavy Vibration while braking at ^60-70

Hello all i have a 06 rl CPO that was purchased in March of this year. with 39,000 i currently have 44,000 on the car. Yesterday while driving out of state and braking at about 60-70 the steering wheel shakes allot, is this a sign of rotos? and would this be covered under my original warrenty or the CPO, if this is a roto issue. I am a very conservitive driver so i am was puzzled as to the rooto already.

Could very well be a sign of warped rotor discs. I have had the same symptoms and diagnosis in the past on my other cars.

Rotors can warp from otherwise benign circumstances such as washing your car while the rotors are still hot.

If the rotors are warped it may be a good time to upgrade to slotted rotors and higher quality pads. Most times the aftermarket rotors are less expensive than the dealer OEM parts.

Sounds like rotors if you have vibration while braking. I believe rotors are a wear item and thus not covered by warranty. If they can't be machined, then I agree with motegi's suggestion to upgrade your rotors.

BTW, I deleted your duplicate post.

Yep, sounds like warped rotors. During some other service last week, I asked my Dealer about a front brake job. He quoted me $450 (the pads alone are $200).

You can get Rotora slotted/driller rotors, EBC red pads AND stainless steel lines for $400 plus shipping and do it yourself!

Add one to the list of warped rotors being the problem.

With 44k on the car, it seems very unlikely rotors would be warped. Could be a tire out of balance or your alignment could be off. If they are warped rotors, I suspect they might be covered under your CPO since rotors warping at that mileage might be considered a defect. BTW, can you feel a lip on the edge of your rotor? that won't cause the vibration, but it is a sign they are going bad.

I would think an alignment problem would manifest itself as more of a problem with straight line tracking or with premature or uneven tire wear. Regardless it shouldn't occur only under braking at speed.

Also tire balance issue should also cause wobbling while driving and not just braking.

Went to the dealer today, they said the front rotos are warped, they need to be resurfaced. $120.00 does that seem expensive? i dont need to upgrade as many are saying to slotted i just need this taken care of.

Well according to Apple, your steering wheel could be warped but more than likely you are not holding it right.

Seriously, $60 per side to turn from a dealer is about right. Go ahead and replace the pads and have a road forced balance done on your wheels and tires. It should ride as smooth as silk.

That's absurd. A car, no less one that lists at over $50k, that is barely 4 years old with 44k miles on it should not have its rotors warping. Rotors should last at least 60k miles and their replacement should not be because of warping but wear and tear (i.e., a lip forms on the outside.) My 05 has 64k miles on it and the original rotors are perfectly fine. Yours are defective or something else is wrong causing them to warp.

Just curious, have you also had to replace your pads because rotors should last longer than the pads.

BTW, unbalanced tires or misalignment will cause vibration at higher speeds. A warped rotor should be able to be felt at low speeds as well as high speeds. You start to slow down for a light and you will feel the unevenness of the brakes grabbing.
