Hardwiring a radar detector

Just curious if anybody attempted to hardwire a radar detector in RL. I used to have it (Passport 8500) hardwired to the overhead console in my previous car (e36 M3).

I have a Beltronics RX 75. Works like charm. The console is on top of the coin box opening, the speaker is inside the center tunnel and the mute button sits right next to the seat heater switch. The whole installation is invisible, even the laser blockers! Price, including installation was 1K, but its worth every single penny. It definitely outperforms anything in the market (except the identical escort SR7) by a comfortable margin. Proffessional installation only.

It's pretty easy to do in the RL. I'm using bel rx65 pro and got a phone wire and add a circuit from pepboys. Then ran the wire up to the rear view mirror. You can see part of it this pic -

Touge, is it a DIY job? Do you have any wiring digram / instructions to cut into the rear view mirror or any other source up there?

Yeah it's a easy job in my opinion, took maybe 20 mins. I tapped the power using the add a circuit from the fuse box. I did not want to cut any wires or get power from the rear mirror.

Just for info: The SR7 and RX75 are definitely not DIY jobs.

First mod on the RL was the hardwiring of the V1 and concealed display. Tapped into the fuse box like Touge and ran the wires up the drivers side A Pillar to behind the rear view.

With the fuse box being in the engine compartment how did you route the wires?

A couple of years ago, 911 posted detailed instructions with photos.

Well, here is what looks like his post, but I don't know where the photos went. Maybe there's another post somewhere with the photos.

Whoops. Well the photos are still there, but I can see when I fire up my other browser that my current filtering doesn't allow them to download. Firefox will not show any evidence of the photos, but IE shows there are photos there, but doesn't lload them...hopefully, they'll load for anyone else needing them.
