Is this a good price?

Hello all,

I am not an Acura owner yet but will be soon I'm thinking. I test drove an 07 RL last week and sorta just fell in love with the car...just had a big smile on my face the whole time! That's also after test driving a gs350 (which rattled the whole time) and an IS350. Since then, I've been lurking here reading so many of these threads...and learning tons about the car!

I've now found an 07 RL with tech (nav) but no PAX/CMBS with 27k miles at an Acura dealer. They are offering it for 26k without it being certfied or 26.9 with it certified. Is this a fair price? It seems that used RL prices have been fluctuating a bit from what I understand as more folks are buying used vs. new right now....any thoughts regarding the price?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Pricing definitely seems good; I would want a certified one though - it is worth the additional amount in this case. Check out carfax of course too - hopefully only one local owner and not fleet use.

Get it certified and get the extended warranty. Also, ask the dealer for the carfax of the vehicle.

Appreciate your interest in the RL. I hope you join in our ownership club for this stellar yet under appreciated vehicle.

If that car is being offered by an Acura dealer and is NOT being offered as a CPO, I would question why? Why would not an Acura dealer take opportunity to make this a CPO offering? There must be a reason why, and that would make me suspicious. CPOs require a corporate backing.

Even so, some CPOs have issues not fully vetted when sold. But at least you have a leg to stand on with the CPO warranty and support from corporate should the dealer not be cooperating.

If this one does not work out, keep looking. In that price range (or better) you should find a clean, maintained CPO 2006 or 2007 RL.

Hey you guys!

Thanks for the comments. The carfax looks like it was a local car maintained at the dealer. On their website, it's described as being certified but the salesperson said that he could knock off $900 if they kept it uncertified. It is kinda odd that the car hasn't been certified yet as it was "offer for sale" on carfax last month! Huh.....any thoughts?

Hey hpot, welcome to the AZ. Definitely keep the car CPO. That extra warranty is well worth the money.

Hope you join the RL brotherhood soon!

Definitely stick with the CPO route. If you have the extra cash, go for the "Wrap Around Coverage" which will extend the CPO warranty to 7yr./100,000 miles. Then you'll be rolling with serious peace of mind. These Acura's are a huge catch22: They are reliable and last long, but with all the tech in them, you never know when something might go. Knowing that you have that ext. warranty will give you real assurance.

Can you can add on the extended warranty right before your power train warranty (6 years 70K miles) or bumper 2 bumper warranty (4 years 50K miles) expires?

I also agree that it's a fair price but I was in a similar situation on a 2006 RL with 5500 miles that I got down to 27K last year.

It was also sold at a Acura dealership but not CPO. When I asked why they couldn't certify it, they said it was because of the tints (subtle at best).

When I had my mechanic look at it, he said (& showed me) that the car did have some body work done on it with the hood & side sanded then repainted. He said it likely sat in a body shop for awhile which explained the low mileage but said it didn't look like serious frame damage.

Carfax said it was 100% clean however (they only have things recorded on there only if they are reported & not done off the books). I winded up not taking the car.

You can add it at any point until the bumper to bumper warranty expires. I know, I did it on my 3G TL a few years ago.

The dealer emails me today and is willing to offer it CPO for $26,500. I was actually considering adding the extended warranty later before the bumper to bumper expires...but have now just found out how the warranty prices are all jacked up in Florida!

My question now is this....is having the car certified alone without the wrap-around coverage ok or do most folks end up getting the extended warranty? Like sahan23 was saying, there is a lot of tech and so many of the controls are tied into the screen. Having the wrap-around would surely be nice but it's pushing me out of the price range a bit. Thanks for all the comments!

I got my car in Nov 2008 with and bought the extended warranty which I haven't used yet but is prepared to when the time comes. It is better to have it than not.

What does the CPO warranty extend the original warranty to?

You will love the RL. I have a 2007 with 123,000 miles. The original owner and knock on wood have had nothing go wrong outside of normal wear. I have run Mobil 1 since the begining and expect another 123,000 miles. I enjoy the car today as much as the day I first drove it off the dealer parking lot. The satellite radio, bluetooth and nav system are top notch. The only other car that I would consider is a Lexus LS460. I test drove one and it was nice but truthfully did not think it was worth the extra $$$$.

that's a great price. I bought a 2006 CPO with 29k miles about a year ago and paid exactly what they offered you.. $26,500... I paid an extra $900 to add teh "wrap". i think it was good to add. you end up with 100k miles of bumper to bumpcer coverage.

the RL is a great car. I h ave thoroughly enjoyed owning mine. It is a reallly really nice car. for the money...you would have a VERY hard..if not impossible time..finding someging AS nice for that kind of money.

there is always something "better" out there....but when you factor in value..the RL is hard to beat. I still think it's a very good looking car...it's classy and elegant looking. it has plenty of power..it's not a dragster and lacks the torque/power ofa 540/545/550....but for $26,500 you have virtually ALL, if not MORe bells and whistles than any BMW or M/B or Lexus....handling that will likely better or equal ANY of them...and reliablity to put them all to shame.

buy it. you'll love it! be sure to add window tint, maybe a rear decklid spoiler...and you might consider all season floor mats, trunk tray...some of those little add ons are nice. see if you can get the dealer to throw them in.

also, if you get it certified - the dealer ahs to do a writeup / form on what they saw on the car that needed attention. I didn't knwo about that until AFTER I bought my car...and have the info now..but it listed stuff liek what condition the brakes were in, things they did/did not change, etc. you might be able to see stuff on thaat forma nd use it as leverage to get a price break, or require them to change rotors, pads, etc or something if you see that it is worn and they were skimping on not changing it.

good luck!

Sounds like you got a good deal, congrats ! Like everyone was saying, you will want to get the extended warranty, you'll have peace of mind. I'm not saying anything will go wrong, but if it does, you will be happy to not have to flip the bill.
