Question Cleaning Burnt Exhaust Tips

I remember reading somewhere where the '05 year models have an issue with burnt exhaust tips. I am experiencing this issue on my RL and was wondering how I can clean and polish them to bring them back to almost new look. Any recommendations would be great.

Pics below are from my drivers side tip. As you can see, the tip is so dirty, it almost matches the CGP color of my RL.

Soap (dishwashing detergent) and water will clean them nicely.

+1. Even Windex will work.

They're not burnt, just covered with exhaust soot. Clean them up as noted above and polish them with some Cerama Bryte Stainless Steel Brightener.

Mine were really dirty. I guess the previous owner never cleaned them.

I cleaned it off with BlueMagic metal polish. It did take some elbow grease.

Interestingly enough, the carbon had a metallic sheen and looked pretty similar to my carbon gray paint.

Once you get them clean, keep them that way and you won't have any problems in the future. Case in point...mine. Kept clean from day one and they wipe up just like this.

I always have good luck keeping any surface like this looking good, once it's clean, by keeping it covered with ordinary car wax. Right now I'm using NuFinish.

I have an 05 white RL and noticed the soot buildup soon after I bought it (in 05). I mentioned it to my salesrep and after looking into it, he said there was a service note about the original tip and had them replaced.

I tried the Blue Magic this weekend, and it worked like a charm (a somewhat time consuming and mildly laborious one)

tlmaster1 - it's in the Feb '06 Service News. On my next visit to the dealer, I'm going to inquire. My '05 CSM is suffering the same fate, and I try to keep them very clean.
