Good Deal
Good Deal or Not..?
Been searching for an RL off and on for a while now
Found a 2007 CPO 70K Acura RL @ Courtesy Acura Sanford,FL
http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.js...standard=false
Tech Pkg/Deck Lid Spoiler/Alloy Wheels/Wood Steering trim/
Gold Decals/Carfax--1 Owner/No Accidents/Non Smoker
For an 07 I thought the mileage was a little bit on the high side
They had 2 other RL's to compare to an 07 w/49K Miles no TK PKG and 06 67K Miles Both CPO around the same price
Took a test drive--no whine noise or any issues mechanically that I noticed
Paint is great minor scractches and no noticeable chip damage
Issues I noticed where on the driver right panel the panels are not flush like a millimeter off--doesnt look like an accident just looks like a mechanic didnt pop the fender and line with the rivets..hard to notice if u werent specifically looking for this.
Not alot of tread on the tires and the mats were a lil dirty
They are asking 22K on the lot
Website Asking Price is 20,991
Out the door was 24,341.96
They added things like
+Theft Protection ($499)
+Appearance Protection ($249)
along with the dealer service fees
I calculated the price after removing the theft & appearance protection and the out the door price without DP was $23,365 and told them that was a little high compared to what else is out there and I was interested but wanted to get a better price and pointed out the issues. THe sales guy then refers to the Sales Manager. Then I told them I had to go to work not going with the first offer and letting them work for the sale. After I left they called back and said that they can't remove the Appearance/Theft Protection but instead of charging me for it they will give it to me for free so my out the door price would be the same...? I told the finance rep that my goal was to lower the price and not keep the same price with features that I am not interested in.. Wanted to hear your advice if this is a good deal and anybody has experience with buying cars from Courtesy Acura since I am not familiar with the Theft Protection/Appearance Protection not being able to be removed?

For what it is worth, I picked up my '07 CPO with 27k mi for $26k sales price last December, and I feel like a got a good deal. The milage should not be an issue with this car, especially if they are going to extend the warranty with CPO. The price seems fair, and you are getting the Aspec wheels, steering wheel, and shift knob. Is the suspension Aspec as well? Did you check the fender for a matching VIN?
Sounds good to me...
Sounds good to me...
I am not completely positive where it is located (if there is one at all), but I was under the impression there is one. I would think it is located under the hood. Or are you talking about the rear quarter panel?
I mean the front bumper where it meets the passenger side quarter panel. Shoulda took a pic. That seam where it meets up is not flush about a 1mm off and u can see a rivet if that makes any sense. You have to look at it up close to notice. But I checked the exterior/interior of the car as best as I could compared to the other RL's and that was the only issue I could find with the exterior. They stated that for it to be certified the body parts have to have not been changed and there is no record of them being changed/repaired/painted

The Saga Continues..
After I left the dealership to go to work the Finance lady calls me ..I call back to get the Sales Manager who stated that he can knock off the protection plans further for a $750 discount and give me an out the door price of $22,598 before down payment. They brought the interest down from 8.6 to 7.4%...I have ok credit. I mentioned no thread on the tires and he stated he can give me a price that the dealer pays for tires and I would pay no labor for the installation when the time comes to replace them in writing. He stated that the lowest they can be per Acura's rules for CPO is 5/32" and thats what they were and they should last me 15-20K miles.
Also the Wax/Carpet clean for the interior issues I had. I asked about GAP and its an additional $600 sumthing for the GAP insurance (peace of mind I guess)...Now here is the kicker he mentioned that the sales guy has one more sale to complete hto get his bonus for this month and it ends on Thurs night when they close. He wanted to push for the sale and mentioned if they can drive to me with paperwork due to my work schedule and seemed accommodating. Does it seem like a good deal and due you think I should negiogiate further by walzting in on Thurs morning if his story is to be believed ?

sounds like they are pressuring you. who cares what his sales guy need sor wants. that means nothign to you. your job is to get a good deal, not make them money. their job is to scam you and take your money..as much as they can. don't forget that.
used car sales is a big sleazy business. if you are a sucker they will play you.
do your homework. decide if you like the car. decide what you want to pay. offer it. not a cent more. walk when they won't give you what you want.
you will get scrwed if you go in there and are wishy washy and let them game you.
you can be polite, but tell them you need to think about it and will call them back. then leave. and think about it. when you are there...siting and thinking about it...and they know you want the car..they ahve you.
always walk away and think it over. the car will not get sold out from under you while you think about it no matter what they say.
good luck. RL's are good cars. if you get it, you will like it.

Don't let the pressure get to you. Offer what you think the car is worth and if they are worth working with, do it. If they are turning sleazier by the hour, walk. There are other RLs out there.

Thanks for the support. Great Forum. From a Nissan Twin Turbo to a hooptie and hopefully to an Acura. No pressure for me at all. I was hoping to use this as leverage since their itching for a sale.
Got reviews of the dealership during my research
http://www.dealerrater.com/dealer/Co...a-review-3655/ compared to the other Acura Dealers it looks ok
Does anyone live in the Central Florida area or near Sanford..?
Does a 07 CPO 70K Miles w/Tech Pkg, Aspec Wheels sound good for 22,598 Out the door Price(Before DP)?
Anything else I need to watch out for ?(There was no recalls performed according to the car fax)
I should be going back on Thurs with my mechanic
Has anyone had any experience in fighting for all new tires instead of a discount on price for a set of 4..?
I am only asking because if the vehicle is certified to me it means like new and the tires are not bald but don't have alot of thread either even though he stated that they meet the minimum requirement which is 5/32"..............

I turned the music off with the windows up and tried to listen to noises from start to acceleration up to 60mph in both auto/manual mode but didn't hear anything.Never seen the issue in action and don't know what to specifically look for.....is there something I am missing??? From my account what kind of offer would u make ..? I'm thinking 20500 before downpayment plus discount/new tires and gap insurance....how's that?

Here's what I found:
Put it in manual mode and shift up to 5th and stay around 45-ish MPH on flat terrain or a slight incline. Let off the gas until the car drops to 42 MPH and then very slightly press the gas pedal (lightly enough that if you weren't in manual mode it would not drop down a gear). At this point, I could observe some RPM fluctuation on the tachometer (bouncing between 1200 and 1500 revs), and there would be a slight grinding sound that could pass for wind noise.
Here's hoping that your RL doesn't have the issue!

My '07 has no whir or whine issues. I thought this was an '05/'06 thing. Also, I don't think what Mojo was explaining is the issue they are talking about. From what I remember there are two noises, one at 35-40 and one at 65-70. Here is the link you want.

I didnt notice any whirring noises when I test drove it but I will doublecheck tomorrow. From the thread I read its quite common for 05/06 models due to the design of the propeller but with the new redesign it resolved it. But a few number of ppl are still having unrelated whirring issues.
Can anyone help me figure out a better price out the door for me to negiogiate with or what you feel the car is worth? I understand its not your money but I just wanna be able to go in and negiogiate a better price at the same time not lowballing them if that makes sense I was thinking on a firm 21000 after an initial offer of 20500 from the 22538 they offered ..? Any thoughts. I called to let them know I will be in tomorrow but didnt mention my mechanic coming with me or me having the day off. The sales manager tells me he is going to detail the car and have it ready for me to get me in and out. I laughed to myself because this is the opposite of what I want I wanna sit down roll up my sleeves and haggle over pricing for hours...maybe not hours but you get the point. Does 21K seem overpriced "thephantom" or any1 else...?

Was able to answer my question...did some research on autotrader for comparable certified RL's throughout the US and found 3 results all averaging about $19,99X before Sales tax, etc a $1K difference from their $20991 sales price ..even though none of them had the upgraded features Aspec ,Steering Wheel, shift knob etc. All three were ranging from 60-70K in miles. Printed all the details and will use for negiogiating hopefully....

why don't you find another one you want.
if you are making offers on the car... they are going to think you want it. and if they think you want it - they have you.
you want them thinking you have alternatives. find some other RL's in the area, and just go look at them. maybe they are better? if you don't look at them, just walk and tell the dealer you may go look at some other RL's at nearby dealerships...
or you are going to look at a different car altogether...
the key is to have a price you want to pay and stick to it. if they dont' sell itw here you want .. LEAVE.
when you go to the dealer emotional about a particular car.. you will wind up buying it.
no matter how much you think you like this car.. or think it's a good deal - if you are patient, look around.. you will find one just as good or BETTER later.
patience is your friend in the used car search.
the best deals I've obtained when buying new cars have been when I just walked out and told them it wans't right.. or thep rice was off..
one car... i walked out.. and in the parkiong lot they chased me out there and said "ok.. you win we'll sell it to you at that price".. i was actually leaving.. not game playing with them.. i was just leaving. they caved.. i bought it.
so... be patient. only buy it if you want it... and stick to your price.
do you know if they took it in trade or got it at an auction. if they took it in trade you know they paid low bllue boook or something near that for the car. if it was an auction buy they maybe paid more..
it's hard to know what a "fair" price is.. you can go off kbb, nada, etc... look at those websites... and look at other cars for sale in your area with similar specs... one nice ting about RLs.. they are all pretty much the same. so if you find another one.. the only real difference will be colors... you can compare pricing among different cars because they are all the same. mostly.
good luck.

^ that's good advice....
I'm in the market for an RL myself, Courtesy is about 15 minutes from me, but I have a friend that is a dealer and we are going to go to an auction to purchase.
Based on my research of auction prices and sales (Manheim), the RL is a slow mover, especially in the south east. I would guess that this car with 70k would probably sell between $17k-18k @ auction. I doubt the dealer really cares about the A-Spec wheels because only certain buyers are looking for that (IMHO).
I'd start @ 18,5 and then go from there..... lol, the worst they can say is no.....
either way, I hope you drive home with a car you like at a price that you feel was a great deal, that's really all that matters...

Do you mind giving us the details after all of this? We'd be interested to hear about the haggling and what you finally got, what you offered, etc... Great experience for others to learn from. Thanks!
Was a 3 day experience
1st Day (Tues) Seen it with the sticker price of $24K/Online Price (Price Before Taxes,Tag,Reg, Dealer Fees etc) $21,991 (Base Price) took a test drive, haggled over pricing and the issues I noticed which I pointed out.Found out they were thirsty for the sale. They offered $22,583 Out the Door w/ Tax,Fees Etc left it at that
2nd Day (Weds) Did my research and took time to think things through. Got a call from the Sales Manager saying his pitch about the sales guy needs another sale to break into bonus and the last day being Thurs(thought this was strange , like why would you tell me this)
3rd Day (Thurs) Led them into thinking I was definite buyer. They said yeah if ur going to be in early we can detail it and get it ready for ya before you go to work. I took the day off and didnt want to be rushed into anything. Came intentionally late. Met up with the sales guy. Did a once over of entire care for about 20 minutes. Found a new issue the screw was missing on the grill insert for the front bumper. Explained this to them and they put in writing for a new grille insert. Sat down they said they wanted to make a copy of my DL, paycheck stub etc. I was dancing in my head. I said that I havent agreed to buy yet. Got the Sales Manager he gave me the paperwork which out the door price along with the financing options. He complained about he thought I was ready to buy I stated that I am looking but I am interested I was looking at 2-3 other cars yesterday and found some certified cars in New Jersey and 2 other states that beat his price. He gave me a blank stare and said what can we do for u. This is where the negiogiation began
Offered 2yrs Maintennance for Free
New grill Insert
Wholesale price for new tires no labor
They got my interest down from the average 8.4-7.4 to 6.7% (Not the greatest credit). Tried to get credit thru my credit union but offer was too low as in what they would finance me.In the end I added Gap Ins. Extended Bump to Bump to 100K & added another yr of maintennance to make it 3yrs instead of the 2 they gave me for free. Out the Door price 20-21K before Downpayment. The financing is not over my head. So I am happy. First upgrade is Tints or Radar Detector Passport 9500ix. My fault with the updates after I got Ins on both cars hooptie/acura plus all the paperwork I wanted to get out of there and went to Universal and had to have someone come with me to pick up my hooptie I didnt trade in. Long day. I will post pics this weekend. Thanks for all the input from everyone

Congrats on the car. I think you got a great deal. I was looking at some RL's last week in the Houston area. There were few 08's in the 40-50K range miles CPO and asking prices are around 27-28K. They were willing to go down to 26K. I like the RL, but ended up buying a new 2011 TL SHAWD for 35K. I might get the RL when I am in the market for my next car.
Will post some more pics when I can will have to be near an empty parking lot
On average whut do you guys think is a good price for tints. I was thinking under $200 maybe 150 ..?

Bought two Acuras from Courtesy in Sanford. My CPO CL (98) and my current CPO 06 RL. Courtesy has treated me very well, at least during the two purchases.
Fountain Acura is closer to me so that would be where I would get any work done if I needed it. I live on the East coast and both are pretty far from me. Courtesy just seems to always have the Acura I want when Im looking.
I always look for those Lease turn ins with around 36,000 +/- mi after their three year turn in timeframe when I buy. Got my current RL with 30,000 when I got it. Added on the 7/100,000 warranty. Did the same with my old CL as well.
Id gladly buy another Acura from Courtesy (sanford). And probably will. I'll be hunting for a MDX next.

Florida Law:
Windshield: Non-reflective tint is allowed along the top of the windshield above the manufacturer's AS-1 line.
Front Side Windows Must allow more than 28% of light in.
Back Side Windows Must allow more than 15% of light in (limo).
Rear Window Must allow more than 15% of light in (limo).
Edit: I went legal......Most installers will put limo all around, but wont give you a receipt (no warranty - no proof of purchase). They charge the same, but if you get pulled over by the cops for too dark tinting, you'll get a ticket and you'll have to get it re-tinted the legal way.

Congrats! If you go to courtesy for your car servicing, Go to Angie in service ONLY and tell her your from acurazine and know her friend with the 760 from daytona beach. She will treat you well and won't try to rip you off.
Who did you deal with in sales? And the service manager?

15% is not quite limo. I have 5%, and it isn't complete blackout. Close, but not limo. Remz, check out this post for tint ideas.

I put Llumar ATR metallic tint all around for $230. There was a cheaper option; it's listed in that link. Llumar has a lifetime warranty that any dealer has to honor.
