Extended warranty for '05 RL?

I purchased an '05 RL with 34k miles on it about a month ago. It's still under manf warranty until April. Any recommendations on if/where regarding an extended warranty?
Thanks,
Adam

I just bought the acuracare from:
Tom Brown - hondacareguy
Mike Pruitt Honda Akron,Ohio
tbrown@mphonda.com or hondacareguy@aol.com

They had the best prices and the transaction went very smooth. Tom was very responsive.

Sometimes you can go through your bank and they'll attach the cost of the warranty to the end of your loan so you won't have to pay extra monthly....that's if your financing your RL.
The extended warranty on my '05 Rl with 75K miles was $1000. Warranty was for 36k miles, covers everything w/ a $100 deductible.

Do you know whether the warranty price is substantially lower if your mileage is much lower (e.g. 15k) and the car is newer (06)? Are all extended warranties for 36k miles only? When you say it covers everything, is the coverage similar to the original warranty? Kindly clarify. Thanks.

my credit union offered a warranty up to 100K miles for $1k (car had 42k miles at time of purchase). My warranty covers all major components, electrical, etc.

I would only go with a ACURACARE warrenty.

I work at a dealership and all those 3rd party warrenty companies are a headache they will do anything to get out of paying for stuff.
We use Fedelity and some others and they all suck call a bunch of acura dealers in your area and get a acuracare warrenty..

^ what he said. Getting a warranty from someone other than acura will just give you one big headache. There will be extra paper work involved plus your dealership will try to stick you for whatever else they can throw in there. It's like adding a third party to every issue you have with your car.

With an Acura warranty it makes it a lot easier for your service advisor to write things off. Even if they weren't going to be covered in the first place.

Keep in mind this all heavily depends on the relationship you have with your dealership and their service department.

Many third party warranties require either pre-approval of the repair or for you to pay for it and request to be reimbursed. Good luck with that one...

I bought my 05 rl with 43k miles on it from an acura dealer and got the acura 7 yr/100k mile extended warranty, effectively giving me a 4yr/64k mile warranty. Warranty was through Acura and cost me $900. The warranty starts from the day the car was put in service (march 05).

Once a car exceeds 50k miles, acura won't offer such a warranty, at least that's what I've been told.

Don't forget about the extra 5% of mileage awarded by the class action lawsuit. The warranty actually doesn't end until 52,500 miles.

As long as your car is still in warrenty then you can get a acuracare warrenty.which is #1...Loaner cars....roadside assist....hotel reimbersment its just like the new warrety..Dont bother with 3rd party warrenties, i had a guy buy a pick up truck got warrenty work done twice was reembersed but then his tranny went and they would not reemberse him cuz they said he used it for commercial use and abused it but when the first 2 problem arose they paid said nothing about commercial use because it was not an expensive issue!!

Unfortunately in Florida, we can only purchase extended warranty from limited vendors, either located in Florida, or specifically liscensed in Florida.

When I inquired about an AcuraCare Extended Warranty at my dealership, the agent was pushing a 3rd party warranty, which I found odd. When I specified I wanted an AcuraCare warranty, the agent made me feel as if it was a mistake and it would be difficult to obtain. Go figure.

I made no issue of it since I think it is stupid to buy redundant coverage while I still have 2 years on my factory warranty. Oddly the extended warranty clock begins with the date of purchase of the policy and not when the OEM warranty expires. So I would be paying for time I already have included in the OEM warranty.

I decided I will obtain an AcuraCare extended warranty in another year or so, and also I will shop another vendor here in Florida. This agent not only lost my confidence ('Did you hear me say I wanted an AcuraCare warranty???") I felt the agent's motivation to sell me 3rd prty coverage was not in my best interest.

The insurance industry in Florida is jacked....warranties, homeowner's, auto, health and mortgage. Confusing to the consumer and often mandated by law.

My local dealer offered a 50k mile and 5 year Acuracare for my '05 RL for $1800.
Worth it?
What expenses have others exeperienced with the new RL that would help me decide if I might get to this cost quickly with repairs?

Navi. I haven't had issues with this yet, but a navi repair or replacement is a couple thousand at minimum.

I'd get Acuracare, but I wouldn't pay $1800 when there are other options available online as listed above in this thread.

Sounds way too expensive to me. I paid $900 for a 7yr/100k mile warranty from Acuracare. I bought it when my car had 43k miles on it back in May, effectively giving me another 57k miles and 4 years. Seemed like a pretty good deal given all the electronics on this car, including the SF-AWD system. Hope I never need it, though.

Bob, its not rocket science...most navi problems occurr as a result of the DVD unit failing to read a DVD...Send it back to Alpine and they flat rate reapair it for $162 including 2nd day air....as for the navi screen, I have not heard of a single failure...that means you would be able to buy one cheap through EBay or other salvage.

Don't get me wrong, there is a ton of technology in this car...I bought the extended warranty, but the one thing I'm not worried about is the DVD Nav unit failing.
