ECPS light on

06 RL 145k miles.

Just got my AC fixed and now my “check Power Steering light has come on twice. Both times I was in park at idle. Both times the light went out after a restart. The manual says it may be an open between the ECPS module and the PCM. (No DTC) I’m not sure how to check that. So far no problems with the feel of the steering and fluid is full and looks OK. No sounds from the pump or rack. Any ideas?

I don’t know if old power steering fluid can set off the warning light but my fluid looked as if it had never been changed, disgusting. I emptied the reservoir, refilled and moved the steering from lock to lock. I did this five times. It’s still not clear but much cleaner. I guess we’ll see.

Mike734 -- May I ask about the A/C fix? What was the problem, what was the solution, and how much was it? My A/C has been coming on cool, but fades as I drive. If I stop and then restart (like for getting groceries) it comes back to life, but on the whole is just weak and intermittent. I had a recharge done at a local oil change place, and their machine did not report any leaks while doing the exchange and refill so I'm at a loss to the problem.

you may want to check your ac compressor clutch. Have someone press ac on off button while you see the ac clutch to see if it engages. In my case the clutch had broken the rubber part between the clutch which caused the clutch to not engage or when it did engaged it woked intermittently because the rubber vibration insulation was broken and clutch was literally split into two parts.

Where would I set eyes on the A/C compressor unit & clutch? I looked around and couldn't even locate the little window on the A/C module that would let you see if the system is cloudy. I can hear the clutch engaging, but it could be slipping the longer I drive. It's somewhat unpredictable as to whether it will give up on a longer drive....

For your car (deepa1600), what got replaced & how much was it??

I think you can turn the right front wheel to the left or right and you can see the compressor clutch and check if it's spinning with the compressor when engaged. In my case it was intermittently spinning. I replaced just the clutch, i bought just the clutch from aliexpress since i couldn't find the replacement anywhere for cheap. It ran fine for a rear and i sold the car after that. I bought the part Here. Make sure you contact the seller and tell them what you need.
