Is it as easy to replace the spark plugs as it looks?

Sorry to hear that bro,good luck with whatever direction you wanna go.I just want to ask you or anybody here how do you remove the engine plastic cover?I turned those 2 clips and the cover comes loose but doesnt come off.Do i need to pull up harder or there is other plugs somewhere i cant see?Thanks

The cost is probably a result of being in NE. I know NY dealers charge more per hour than dealers in the South. They also are going to hit you with everything they can until you return with other prices/quotes.

Find all the parts listed on Oemacuraparts.com (searching part numbers is a breeze), write down that price and put the ball back in their court. They won't want to give up a job like this because of part cost. Also, they won't really have a good retort since the site is run by an Acura dealership.

Already done for the most part....I'm going to ask for a meeting with the GM if thngs don't go well with the SM...one good thing, I got a $300 different quote for the head from the SM and the Service Writer, with the SM giving me the cheaper of the 2...looking forward to that explanation.

I've used many different Acura parts websites over the years, just print out the page and take it into the parts department at the local dealer after calling and verifying they will honor the price. Not once have they ever brought up I would have to pay shipping which would negate some of the savings....

I am due for the B4 Service on my 05 RL and decided to tackle the Spark Plug piece of it myself. Just ordered the NGK IZFR6K11 from Amazon for $72.90 Shipped. That beats the ~$140 I was quoted from service center I am taking it to for the service. So you think I should tighten them TIGHT like the service guy said, or to the torque specs referenced earlier in this thread (13 ft lbs)?

I just picked up 6 NGK IZFR6K11 at the local Advance Autoparts for $64..going to drop them off at the dealer on Monday...dealer is quoting nearly $20 per plug!!!

Question; if the threads are stripped in the head where the plug goes, and I'm getting a new head, there's no reason why I can't use the existing valve cover, correct?

That option was discussed, but I vetoed it as I plan on keeping the car for awhile since I'm doing all this repair work to it....granted it's a $h!tl0ad more money, but I will have piece of mind and a 12\12 warranty with the new head.

this sounds like the same problem i'm going through. at start i have a rough idle and then a code came on within 70miles of buying the car. my car is in the shop and they sent my heads to the machine shop to have a valve job. i wonder if they would be looking at the spark plug threads while doing that. i bought the car a month ago and have taken it back to the small dealer 4 times. they are covering the costs so thank god for that! gluck for our cars!!! i still dont have my car back yet. i'm praying this will be the final shop visit!

I'd just changed my plugs. The originals were NGK so I'd ordered the same ones. The advice on using two short extension saves me some time on the plugs in the back row. Changing these plugs are no different than any other plugs.

One thing to note is that the gap on these NGKs are not suppose to be adjusted. So use them straight out of the box - I did double checked and measure - should be between 1.0-1.1 mm (0.039-0.043 in.).

Good for another 100K...

Just had my plugs changed from by the dealership with 96,000 on the odometer and they charged me 1 hour labor at $110.00 and 28.46 per plug which comes to $170.76 for a total of $280.76. I did not ask which brand plugs they used. Since money is not an issue for me I did not want the hassle of doing them myself. I used to do my own on my 1991 accord 4 cylinder which was a snap. There is a big difference that is evident with the new plugs. When starting out from a stop I don't have to push down on the gas pedal nearly as far as before to get the car moving and the gas mileage is 2 miles per gallon better in the city so far.

I am sure they used NGK plugs especially if you took it to the stealership, but GOOD LORD, 28.46 per plug?

Yeah, they are $11 each on amazon. Even if money is not an issue for you, why overpay like that merely on principle.
