drivetrain noise between 70-75

Hey, I wondering if anybody hears gear noise coming from the console or shifter
area, it's high pitch and goes in and out under load. I should say it makes the noise when you are accelerating moterately and when you lift the accelerater it
quits. Similar to a differential noise. this noise comes in about 71-72 goes out 75.
Do all AWD car make this noise?

Noises are not normal. Have other issues buy not the noise you describe(not yet anyway). Have you checked the tranny and diff fluid levels? Get to the dealer ASAP to avoid a problem.

Drivetrain noise between 70-75

This car has been at the dealer numerous times they replaced drive shaft twice
and the differential all on separate occasion. All with no effect. What I'm really trying to fugure out if anybody else has this same noise. The loaner car also had
the same noise. between 70-75

Was the loaner a RL?

I'll listen closely and post back.

I don't hear any noise, but I do have a vibration, like incorrectly balanced tires, at this speed only. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if I noticed it or not before the PCM update.

I am hearing a speed dependent slight whining sound as well. It's not rpm dependent, verified by shifting. I can hear it at 50 and above, maybe even slower. It reminds me of my Eclipse GSX. Of course that was a $32K car. I expect a bit better from the RL. I'm a little nervous though that if I take it in they will start replacing things and it'll never be the same. Maybe I'll give it another few hundred miles and see if it'll wear out.

i have the same noise issue as you. whenever i go over between 70-75. i posted regarding this last week but no one has any idea what i am talking about. but i thought this is normal since it only happens whenever i gas it over 70 and it gets quite annoying. i will talk to my service rep when i bring it in next time.

I heard it today when cruising 70-75 and touching the gas...one more thing to discuss with the dealer.

I'm also having a vibration problem at 70 - 80mph. The car goes back to the dealer on Monday. I'm hoping it's a wheel balance issue, but I'm expcting to hear "we don't feel anything", or the always popular "that's normal".

wooacura - you had the driveshaft replaced twice?? What's up with that?

Sounds like a different problem. Keep us posted on what the dealer says. Frankly I'd be more concerned about the vibration you're feeling than the whine I'm hearing.

I have the same problem except that the transmission whine starts around 40mph. You can hear it under power and it goes away when you take your foot off the gas pedal.

I just took my '05 (19xxx VIN series) into the dealer for the exact same problem - faint drivetrain whining at both 40mph and 70mph. Only hear it when I press lightly on the accelerator, goes away when I either press harder or remove my foot.

As part of their investigation, the dealer test-drove several other RL's on their lot with the same number of miles and concluded they're all like that... "as designed."

This is very interesting. I have an Acura 2004 TSX auto and I have the exact same problem, the high pitch noise on the highway that goes away when I take my foot from the gas pedel. There was even a thread on the TSX board on this. The dealers told the owners of the TSXs that this was "normal" and there was nothing they could do to correct it. Very annoying.

Do all of you who have this probelm have the original problem? Sometimes tire noise can change between being under load and no load.

I have the problem as well but thought it was a tire issue.

I havn't noticed it and I don't have the original tires. When I go downtown tomorrow to scope out the place I am having my interview, I will listen for the same noise that is being described.

I suppose it's possible, but I think unlikely. The whine does not alter pitch as the speed changes, on the TSXs at least. Could be different on the RL.

i just picked up my rl from the service dept over the weekend and the service rep did confirm the noise that i was complaining about and confirmed that this whinning sound is not normal. but he said he didnt have time to resolve this issue and will need to reschedule. so i will have to bring it back next time. i dont think he knows what to do with this noise either cuz i left car over night and they wont even able to fix half the problems on the list.

i got an deep scratch on the door before i bought the car but they promised they will fix that. i've been getting quite a few rattles on the dash and my xm radio wasnt working, and also i ordered the shock sensor alarm to be installed. so far they only fixed the xm radio and installed the alarm. and they want me to leave the car with them for another few more days next time to have the rest fixed.

thanks for the update Wasabe. I sure hope that the fix for this whine won't be a major transplant.

I have a customer who is noticing the same thing.

I talked to one of my 2005 RL customers today. He loves the car, has about 1200
miles on it, but has one complaint which sounds similar to the original post.

Between 75 and 80 mph, when he "feathers" the throttle, he is hearing a whining
noise. He only hears it with the radio off and has not been able to determine
what the cause is ( nor has he spent any real time trying to pin point it. )

If anyone else has experienced this problem and / or has any idea as to what
might be causing it, I would be interested.

Sounds like the same problem. I've been driving a different, more noisy road so I haven't heard it in a while.

I asked my dealer the second time regarding the whinning noise but he still doesnt know whats the issue. he believes its not normal but doesnt know exactly where it is coming from. he said he needs to call acura up and ask them next time i bring it in. that was the third time i brought my rl in already since i brought it 2 months ago and they still havent fixed anything yet besides the xm radio. sometimes i wonder if they know anything about this car.

Does anyone else heard anything about this from your service dept?

The "whine" I'm hearing under these conditions is very, very faint...and rather turbine like. I've not associated it with the OEM tires, but rather imagined I was hearing from the shawd. Frankly, it's not the kind of sound I would associate with something going wrong. If it becomes obviously louder or intrusive into the cabin or "trashy" sounding like something's going to break, that's another matter.

Yep, turbine sounds right. In its later years my Eclipse GSX (also AWD) had this sound. My s4 never did. The RL shouldn't either.

Add me to the list of those that are getting the "turbine whining noise". I haven't asked the dealer about it yet - still trying to isolate the vibration I feel at cruising speed.

Has anyone got an admission from their dealer that the turbine whine at 40 mph is a problem? More importantly, has anyone got it fixed yet?

RL Drivetrain Whine

I have the exact same whine - 72 mph under load. Goes away if coasting and also goes away about 75 mph.

Have 25,000 miles and it just showed up in the last 1,000 miles or so. Have not had in to dealer yet.

Also, with the cold weather, I get a 40 mph whine when cold. It goes away on warm up.

I can not accept the whine as normal. Very distracting when cruising.

It will be fixed or I'm done with this car.

I have the problem too......it was first about 70 mph or so.......let off the gas and it stops.....touch gas and it starts again. Yesterday I noticed it at 50mph. Haven't spoke to dealer.....had some service problems there......afraid they will make matters worse until we find out exactly what it is.

Have y'all had the transmission TSB applied? Where is the sound eminating from? Is it directly in the center of the car under the shifter? If so, it sounds like it could be the transfer case. Make sure the transmission fluid is at the proper level.

has anyone test drove another RL to see if this noise we are talking about exist in all of them? I wanted to test another one while I was at the dealer last time but the service rep says it doesnt shows in others.
