DIY for timing belt?
DIY for timing belt?
Looked for a DIY on changing a timing belt and water pump for an 05 RL but am not running into. Does anyone know of a manual online I can download or anyone know of a thread about this that I may have missed?
Thanks in advance

Didn't even look past page one.

Here's the procedure for replacing the water pump on a '05 RL:
The radio may have a coded theft protection circuit. Obtain the code before disconnecting the battery, removing the radio fuse, or removing the radio.

- Remove the right upper fender trim.
- Check that the No. 1 piston Top Dead Center (TDC) mark on the front camshaft pulley and the pointer on the front upper cover are aligned.
- Remove the right front wheel.
- Remove the splash shield.
- Remove the drive belt.
- Remove the drive belt auto-tensioner.
- Support the engine with a jack and wood block under the oil pan.
- Remove the ground cable, then remove the side engine mount bracket.
- Remove the front upper cover and rear upper cover.
- Remove the crankshaft pulley.
- Remove the lower cover. (refer to this RL Timing Belt Cover diagram)
- Remove one of the battery clamp bolts from the battery tray, and grind the end of it as shown.

- Screw the battery clamp bolt in. Only tighten it by hand, do not use a wrench.
- Remove the engine mount bracket
- Remove the idler pulley bolt and idler pulley, then remove the timing belt.
- Clean the timing belt pulleys, timing belt guide plate, and the upper and lower covers.
- Set the timing belt drive pulley to TDC by aligning the TDC mark on the tooth of the timing belt drive pulley with the pointer on the oil pump.
- Set the camshaft pulleys to TDC by aligning the TDC marks on the camshaft pulleys with the pointers on the back covers.
- Remove the auto-tensioner.
- Align the holes on the rod and body on the tensioner.
- Use a press to slowly compress the tensioner and insert a 0.08 inch (2 mm) pin through the body and rod. Make sure the pressure to compress the tensioner does not exceed 2,200 lbs. ft. (9,800 N).
- Install the tensioner with the pin still in place.
- Screw the battery clamp bolt in as shown to hold the timing belt adjuster in its current position. Only tighten it by hand, do not use a wrench.
- Loosely install the idler pulley with a new bolt so the pulley is free to move but does not come off.
- Install the timing belt in a counterclockwise sequence as follows:
- Drive pulley
- Idler pulley
- Front camshaft pulley
- Water pump pulley
- Rear camshaft pulley
- Adjusting pulley
- Tighten the idler pulley bolt 33 ft. lbs. (44 Nm).
- Remove the pin from the tensioner.
- Remove the battery clamp bolt from the back cover.
- Install the engine mount bracket.
- Install the timing belt guide plate as shown.

- Install the lower cover.
- Install the crankshaft pulley, do not use an impact wrench. Hold the pulley and tighten the bolt to 47 ft. lbs. (64 Nm) plus turn an additional 60 degrees.
- Rotate the crankshaft pulley six turns clockwise so the timing belt positions itself on the pulleys.
- Turn the crankshaft pulley so its white mark lines up with the pointer.
- Check the camshaft pulley marks, they should be as illustrated.

- Install the front upper cover and rear upper cover.
- Install the side engine mount bracket, then tighten the bolts in the numbered sequence shown.

- Install the remaining components in the reverse order of removal.

I'm not sure if that is for him or me.OP, in the garage there is a service manual that should spell it out.
Here is the link. The Crankshaft pulley removal begins on page 12.
