Dashboard / Passenger Side Rattle
Got my 1st rattle today. It seems to be coming from around the top area of the dash. It's more of a creak I think ?. Doesn't happen all the time. Mostly appearing when going over bumpy roads. Anyone else have a similar noise on ?. Rest of the car is so quiet I guess I hear every little thing.
Been there
I've had lots of creaks. So much so that I took it to the dealer and had them address them. They got most of the ones around the 'center stack controls'... but I had to go after the ones around the silver shifter plate myself. I bought some felt tape... pulled up the plastic surrounding the shifter, and plastered it with felt.... I've gotten 99% of it to stop, and I'm doing my best to stop listening for more. The volume button on your radio will be your friend.

I have 36K miles on an 05 and I have creaks all over the place according to temperature. The noises are different in the cool mornings than in the afternoon heat.
Has anyone had a noise from the sunsheild banging against the window? My sheild was tight against the window when new and now it barely touches so bumps make it hit the rear window. The dealer did say that I should only use it when I'm parked though! But then he tightened it but it now bangs again. Dealers last response was a little bettter: If that doesn't fix it then we will order a new one.

My only area of concern is the B pillar next to my ear. Not the belt...pulled hard...it sounds like little grits loose in there....anyone have this problem and a fix.
Odd, the car is so well made yet it makes so much noise for so many of us.....

I got a few. Had the car in 4 times to fix a rattle behind the NAV / Dash area. Still there. Setting up another appointment and won't take the car back until its fixed. the tech mentioned this one is a known issue. My glove box makes some noises and will ask them to swap it out or something. Also, their is a TSB for the shifter rattles.
Pretty disappointed in Acura/Honda engineering. The hot/cold temperature swings have affected this car's interior alot. I would suspect they made the car too tight and now its expanded/contracted and the creaks came in.
Didn't they observe this during their testing? I guess not..my only saving grace is that I got a good deal on the car so that gives me some patience.

Haven't had any of the creaks and rattles yet except for one - left rear suspension. It's gotten into the low 40's early in the mornings here in north Jersey so I think it is temperature related. No issues once the car warms up after driving around for a while. Still love the RL after two months of ownership and I'm actually beginning to like what I used to think was a bit of an ugly rump of a rear end.

My '05 had so many squeaks, creaks, rattles, and crackles that I traded it on an '06 -- which, apart from the rear sunshade, has been rattle free so far. *knock wood*
One thing -- check your tire pressure. If you're running much above 33-34 psi you get more rattles.

technically, you can't get rid of the rattles.
here's a little physics lesson in a nut shell. if you drive on a certain road at a certain speed, the frequency of the road will match the frequency of lets say, the sunshade, the sunshade will start rattling. so it's impossibel to get rid of the rattles, sure, i'm sure you can get rid of some, but it'll come back if you drive on a road that has the same frequency that matches the new frequency of the "fixed" rattle.
so in a sense, everything can rattle if you hit the right frequency on the road. for all cars.

I was doing some search's, does anyone know if this '05 TSB is applicable to the '06 - http://www.alldata.com/tsb/Acura/114...017/index.html ? or does the '06 model already have all those felt pieces ?.
did you apply some felt tape? If so, what kind?

Ok just got back in, removed a few other panels from my '06 and noticed they did have felt tape in the spots the tsb talks about, so it appears I was partially wrong before.
I did apply felt tape to the glove box latch's and the shifter area. I bought the tape from home depot, it's good stuff and cost like $3. Only thing is it is bright green in color, but you never see it so I don't care.

First off, a solid brick of metal won't rattle. Nor will anything that does not have a significant motion component to it. So, if everything is moving at the same time relative to everything else around it, there's no rattle.
Another little physics lesson -- What you *can* do is move the frequency that makes the rattle come "alive" relative to the suspension's basic frequency at any normal driving speed. So, if you tighten something down so that it only rattles above, say, 160 MPH, then effectively it'll never rattle for this car, since it can't go over 135. Or, alternatively, you can move it down to 10 MPH, and then the energy transmitted through the suspension to the car will probably be too low to make it rattle.
So, um, yeah. You can make the car not rattle. In fact, it never should, since there's several well-paid engineers working for every single car company whose job is to determine just where every part in the car resonates, and make sure it isn't instrusive.

My friends 1 week old RL started making the creaks in the same area you are talking about after he had his car serviced and washed at the dealer. We confirmed the sounds at initial exceleration, and when braking were coming from the area you refer to. We both think it may have occured if the person cleaning the vehicles interior might have put his weight with his hand on their and loosened the plastic cover.
Hard to believe they didn't use real metal instead of plastic on a 50K car.
My new RL which I have only had for a month, so far has no squeaks or rattles.
Touge,
Did you ever get the shifter rattle resolved?
I had this nasty rattle, which I thought was in the rear top brake light. The dealer took over 5 days to try to figure out what it was. They changed out the sunroof rails, and said that this resolved it. I just got it back...it seemed fine...for awhile. Then I started to hear the same sound again, but not as loud as before. They ripped out all the top upholstery to do this.
Here is 2 more things that happened:
1. The dealer said the guy scratched the shifter plate, so they had to change it out. Now I am getting sounds there from accelerating and braking!!! This was not there before...very annoying.
2. I noticed 2 Divot looking areas on the rear middle seat...kind of like knee marks. Very annoying. Do you think I can get the dealer to address this?

The rattle coming from the rear deck area is likely either the rear sunshade rails or the deck area itself. I had these rattles (and the shifter plate) taken care a month ago. The rear sunshade rattle is a known issue.

I fixed the shifter rattle myself using the felt that I got at home depot. When I dismantled the shifter area I noticed there is a plastic arc that the shifter plastic (flimsy) glides on and touches. That's where the issue is. So I put two strips of the felt on the arc and reassembled everything and the noise went away. The dashboard rattle I haven't had a chance to check, but it seems to have gone quieter with the cold weather.
well, yeah. just make the frequency of that object higher so it's impossible to reach such frequency on the road. then you got no rattles
but..i'm sure if you drive the RL on like dirt roads or such, the frequency will match something to make something rattle. but who is really gonna go to that extent?
and yeah, a solid brick won't rattle because it isn't moving. so it really doesn't apply to a car's case.
but i'm sure if there's a frequency that matches it, it'll shatter. like how glass shatters when a frequency that's the same as the glass is applied to it.
