Damage from Pothole

Well that vibration at 75 mph is due to two bent wheels on the right side. The dealer had one and the other will come in this Saturday. $550 a pop.... ouch.

I hope the CV half shaft wasn't bent as well. The tech guy thinks it is only in the wheels however.

Does most car insurance plans pay for road damage. I didn't file a police report after hitting the hole, but I'm thinking the increase to my premium wouldn't make it worth filing.

That is rough. I wouldn't file an insurance claim for only a thousand in damage. I am curious - $550 each for the STOCK oem wheels? That is VERY high. You could have them repaired for $100-150 each. For $1100 total you could have bought a-spec wheels.

The OEM wheels are also on ebay all the time for cheaper. www.acuraparts247.com sells them cheaper than that also. There was also a member in the blackmarket who was selling the RL wheels cheaper.

Yeah I ask about repair, of course, the dealer didn't know of anyone. I found several sites on the web. The most expensive is $250 and they will refinish any scratches. One site would do it for $83.

I thought seriously about A-SPEC wheels or something cooler, but I drive over 1000 miles a week, and this crap is starting to happen monthly. I think I'll have my old wheels repaired and use them as quick long-term spares.

I have to laugh though... I was watching Smoky and the Bandit, and I keep saying "that's a bent wheel, there's another." Low profiles and alloy sucks sometimes.

I've seen two eBay auctions in the last 3 weeks for single stock RL wheels for $20 (it was a takeoff), and only the second auction even had a bidder.

When I was signing the lease papers in November, the dealership offered me a wheel and tire protection package. I believe it was $299.00, which covers the wheels and the tires for 5 years. The suggested price of the wheels were $550, and tires $200.00 each.

I started not to purchase the plan, but she explained that it covered even a new set of 2nd or 3rd set of tires against damage. Plus its prorated so that if I don't purchase the car after the lease at the end of 36 months, I'll receive a portion of the $299.00 back.

That's a good deal. I was never told of such a plan.

Not trying to make your day any worse than it already is-I just thought you might still be able to take advantage of some of the good deals that are around on stock wheels. Good luck!
