Complete overhaul
I am getting a deal on car repair on my RL. I got quote for 6 hours of labor to do overhaul which would include timing belt/water pump, serpentine belt, valve cover gaskets on both sides, all 4 engine mounts,REAR MAIN seal, oil pump seal,O2 sensor, transmission switch sensor.I will get parts but mechanic is charging me only labor.
I and wondering if that is good deal for 6 hours of labor and what parts should I get.
I am looking to buy Aisin kit on Rockauto or Amazon (their store) (which location is better to get it) and possibly engine mounts from Rock auto but gaskets and seals looking to get at Advance.O2 sensor Denso from Rockauto and transmission switch from acurapartswharehouse (they seem to have best prices on parts)....of course change coolant and oil change/filter.Did one transmission drain but maybe later do another one.
Looking for some advice what else should I ask them to do with during repair, what other parts would be good to replace beside one I listed.....what else comes in timing belt kit that is needed and which place is best to buy.

Personally, i would go with gaskets/seals from acurapartswarehouse/oemacuraparts.com because they seem to be way better quality than the aftermarket ones (spark plug seals, valve cover gaskets, power stteering pump, etc. I'd stick with Rock Auto for the Aisin kit because I've seen too many fakes on Amazon reported here and elsewhere.
6 hours is a fantastic quote if he can complete it all in that time, I don't think it's completely unrealistic.. i think book time for TB is 4 hours , he does have to drop the trans/engine to get to the rear main seal and if so, doing the TB out of the engine will be simple.

Yes,it mechanic/tire shop. They did wheel hub on RL and valve cover seal on Lexus which took half hour more than quoted originally.
Not familiar how long it takes for all of that work but it is professional shop so he might be able to work more efficient than others.

Well on Amazon is apparently Aisan store and faster shipping but I can do Rockauto.
Previous owner did Timing belt kit at 115K (now its 225K) for $675 back in 2014.
Also he replaced 2 engine mounts (front and front by radiator) for about $290 each with labor in 2016 with 160K.Does that sound like OEM or just standard mount and would they go bad in 60K miles again?
Should I do all 4 engine mounts? I am bit confused which one is which and how much are they.
He also replaced valve cover gaskets at 115K and went bad again then again it could be bad valve cover itself.

$149 because I am using my own parts. One of few that will accept customer parts.Everyone else gives you lower rate but overcharges on parts. For example timing belt kit is $700 while I can get it for $250.

but he uses aftermarket mounts
OR... valve covers just got hard in the same amount of miles. they're very prone to leaking

My understanding is there are 4 mounts and should I replace all of them since if I get OEM they are expensive...not sure exact cost for all 4. He only replaced 2 front ones based on description on bill.

That is lot more expensive than I thought. During mechanic checkup they said mounts are cracked but did not specify if it was all of them.Previous owner replaced 2 front ones 65K miles ago.How can i tell mounts are bad and which one and if they are all bad how long can you drive with it...thinking about postponing that part as car will be driven few miles a day since I got another one.
Would replacing one or two like previous owner did make it last for while or I have to replace all 4 at same time. Lets say I replace 2 front ones or transmission mount would that help hold car for while despite others being cracked or that is waste of money?

well are you getting any vibrations in the cabin? Typically folks want to replace the rear engine mount with an OEM one when they start getting vibrations that transfer into there.

I am not noticing any vibrations but do get clunk when I shift into first which also seems to be motor mount.Mechanic only listed mounts are cracked but not which one.I am thinking about ordering all 4 OEM since everyone is saying aftermarket are terrible so I have no choice.

Check the 'Fitment' tab.
Which 2006 RL are you?
They are both the same for each part number.
When ordering, they usually have a field for you to input the VIN number for your car.
If it makes you feel better, use the websites toll free number or 'Live chat' to inquire.

What looks different, besides the mount angle in the shots?

In addition, the top vertical bolt hole pass through is 'pushed' to the front part of the mount that ties into the rounded bottom mounting plate in both pictures.
Why the part #'s are different is not clear?

Well the good news and bad news.Apparently my engine mounts are OK but valve covers and coils are melted which was making car shake. So right now I have to do timing belt/water pump kit with valve covers and coils but trying to find a deal on them.
What else should I replace while he is doing timing belt kit? Cranksheft/camshaft seals? Oil pump seals? Anything else that can be done with it.
I wont be doing rear main seal and engine mounts. Also where does power steering normally leak as I have that on my 2002 RL so wonder if I can prevent it on 2006.

Need advice on OEM/aftermarket parts
I am bit in hurry trying to get some parts for my RL but not sure if aftermarket are good replacement or stick with OEM including used one.
I need both valve covers which I know sell $250 a piece on Acura parts sites but some junkyards have them for $150 including coils but have to pull it myself. Is it worth getting used ones if they are just partially damaged around spark holes?
Also I've seen some used OEM coils for $12 a piece but new aftermarket usually sells for $250 for 6 pack while OEM are expensive. Is aftermarket stuff close to OEM quality and which brand or stick with oem and likely just get used ones.
Are coils from other models compatible with RL like TL or Odyssey?
Also need some info on calipers, what aftermarket brand is good to replace original ones.
I am getting all 4 new O2 sensors as some recommend to replace all to work properly and as far I know Denso is best for RL?

Coils are consumables, so don't buy used.
Coils - https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...tion+coil,7060 - I would choose the Denso
Calipers - https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...b,caliper,1704 - I would choose the Raybestos or Centric
Oxygen Sensors - https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...2)+sensor,5132 - I would choose the NTK or Denso
Don't buy from Amazon or eBay because you can't guarantee you are getting genuine items. Counterfeit car parts are very common.

Thats what I was thinking about going Denso.
I noticed they sell "genuine Honda" coils on ebay for $120...it literally says genuine Honda on box which is funny because Honda would not say that on their boxes.

Your spidey sense is accurate, please do yourself a favor and don't go on ebay and amazon for "genuine" parts.

I wouldn't touch the crank and cam seals unless they were leaking, you'll do more harm than good honestly. Oil pump seal is not trivial, you need to drop the pan I believe. Serp belt and serpentine tensioner is a must, reseal the PS pump if it's leaking and flush the PS fluid

I merged your threads no reason to have two separate threads and then have to ask the same question about it, this should streamline everything for you.
