Not sure what caused it but tonight my coin tray won't stay closed. I tried pushing down on it but it won't 'click' to stay closed. anything I can try?

The "this is not an ashtray" tray? The latch on that one breaks pretty commonly. oemacuraparts.com has every latch you could need under "console". The usually run you about $5.

Just came back from a local Acura dealer... I have an extended warranty (fidelity)... thinking this would be covered but was told no. They define coin tray cover as 'trim' therefore it is not covered! I'm a bit surprised to hear but doesn't look like they're willing to work it out with me or dealer at all. I have a vmail out to the service manager at this dealer to see if there is anything he can offer. These guys are pretty easy to work with... but nothing's for sure now.

I was quoted $185 for material/labor. Obviously I don't want to spend that much so how difficult is it to replace this piece? I was told entire coin tray assembly needs to be swapped? Anyone with this problem before?

Also those with Acura extendedcare warranty... do you know if this is something they will cover? I was always told this third party 'fidelity' (which was purchased at this dealer) is to mirror same coverage as extended care.

You are not trying hard enough. This is what searching "latch" in this forum gives.

To be frank, and a little rude, I think you need to pay the dealer $180 just for lack of effort.

Thanks for links. I was only using 'coin tray' as search word. didn't think of 'latch'.

An extended warranty, AcuraCare or third party, probalby won't cover it as it will most likely be considered a trim piece but it doesn't hurt to ask.

Thanks to other links above, I was able to locate a part at another local acura dealer for $7. Schedule to pick up this afternoon and give this a try tonight.

Hopefully it'll go as smooth.

Can I replace just the latch on an 2006 RL?

Honda parts unlimited said the same 05 part is not offered on my 06 but may work. The dealer told me the whole assembly needs to replaced. Has anyone replaced just the $4 latch piece on a 2006 RL or do I really need to buy the $150 assembly (which the dealer wanted $500 for!!!!). Thanks

Welcome to the forums.

We prefer that you post your problem only once, or you will get flamed and heat up the forums and then the sprinkler system cuts in.

I deleted your other two posts and the flaming replies to them also.

I have read all of the threads I can find and mentioned here. I have the part (thanks to this forum) but only want to know if anyone happens to know if "JUST THE LATCH" can be replaced on an 06 like the 05 RL

I just replaced the latch on my 2006 RL and it worked perfectly. The dealer didn't know about the latch but since I had the part number he found the part but said he didn't know if it would work. It does.

Congratulations on fixing your latch issue and, even bigger, congratulations on utilizing the search function. The last one seems to be a forgotten skill lately.
