CMBS will it cost me more to drive ?
Hello guys i wanted to know if the CMBS RLS'S cost more to maintain or own compared to an Regular RL without If i dont want to put back run flat tires on the car would that be fine? or am i locked into this. Is it just the tires that make it CMBS or is it a system? Can i put upgraded rims and tires on CMBS cars?

My understanding for the runflats is that they were on the RLs before the MMC, but I'm not so sure. May want to double check on that. But if you are looking at an RL before the MMC, from what I know is that the runflats have a really odd wheel diameter, so if you were to swap out the runflats into regular tires, you'll need a new set of wheels because no tire will fit the wheel specs unless they are runflats.
Oh, and I believe for CMBS, there's that radar detector plate on the front grille to help prevent collisions.

Unless the CMBS and ACC systems break out of warranty, it won't cost any more to maintain. If it does break out of warranty, it will be VERY expensive to fix and has to be done at an Acura dealer as it requires special equipment to calibrate properly. As for removing the PAX system wheels and tires, there have been plenty of threads on it and the only real issue is that if you get a non-PAX flat, the MID will tell you that it is OK to drive on it which is not true. You will also have to buy a spare and related items for about $500.

And just out of curiosity, I got a quote for replacing PAX tires from my nearest authorized PAX dealer. $2076, same price as it was two years ago, including MD taxes and disposal fees.
The other thing to consider is that if you do change suspension, your CMBS/ACC radar will not be pointing as designed, and will likely have to be recalibrated.

Yep that is correct. The PAX option was only offered on the CMBS/ACC trim from '06-'08. It was dropped for the MMC in '09 probably for issues like the ones posted all over this forum..
CMBS is a nifty feature that won't cost you more to drive unless it breaks.
I changed the springs, lowered the car, and have experienced no extra problems with the system.
If you're an agressive driver then you probably would be better off without this system, my

So the system is just for the tires and the system that monitors it? But tires cost much more right?

CMBS is the little radar that is in the front grille of the car and gives an alarm to the driver and works with ACC (adaptive cruise control) which slow the car down when you are a little close the vehicle in front of you.
It is a front mounted radar that reacts to fast approaching objects and either visually warns the driver, tugs on the seat belt, or slams the brakes in an unavoidable collision to lessen the impact.
It also functions as active cruise control to keep the distance between you and the car ahead.

The CMBS/ACC equipped cars come with the e-pretensioner which does not appear on other vehicles. As 037 describes above, the seat belt will tug on you in stage 2 and in stage 3 will pull very snug in preparation for a crash. The whole ACC/CMBS is a nifty little system integrated with other systems such as the Electronic Brakeforce Distribution. This system boosts braking power in the event a full on panic stop is sensed, and comes on every RL, regardless of trim. The ACC/CMBS, when activated, also activates the EBD, and in stage 3 will actually start to apply heavy braking, although it will not stop the car, as the Volvo does.
And as noted, PAX tires are a completely independent system of the ACC/CMBS.
Here is a pic of the 2006-2008 CMBS/ACC sensor cover. The radar unit is behind the plastic piece.
