cleaning recommendations

Anyone have any favorite products that they use for washing their RL? Do you use an orbital polisher? Wax? What about the dash?

I'm sure someone will direct you to the Wash/Wax forum for this post...

I've been using Zaino (www.zainobros.com) on all my cars for the last 8 years or so now.
I use 303 Protectant on the dash and doors.

I've been using Meguiar's products for close to 15 years. I always get compliments.

Mostly their high-end stuff. Used to be the Medallion series.

I use Meguiar's #9 Show Car Glaze as a polish, and Meguiar's Next Gen wax. Amazing results on my Carbon Grey RL.

I also use their Quick Detailer, Vinyl & Rubber protectant, and their leather conditioner/cleaner. Never have experienced a crack in any of my cars.

I normally can't find these particular products in stores and usually order directly from Meguiar's.

Show Car Glaze outshines all other hand applied polishes, glazes, waxes and sealants. Restores a dazzling, deep, wet shine. Show Car Glaze does not dry white and is safe and effective on all paint finishes

After years of research into advanced polymer chemistry, Meguiar’s has created a wax powered by Engineered Synthetic Polymer (ESP) technology. The result, NXT Generation Tech Wax, is the most technologically advanced synthetic protectant for paint available for today’s modern finishes and clear coats. Our breakthrough formulation goes on and comes off easy without a powdery residue to visually eliminate fine swirls, protect against UV damage, and leave your finish “amped up” – with a deep, wet-look shine that is unbelievably intense. ESP technology creates a tough polymer bond for xtreme, durable protection.

Get your car detailed twice a year and hand wash it in between.

However, if you're willing to spending 5 hours doing it your self Zaino seems to be the product that gets the highest reviews.

i read the wash/wax forum like suggested.

i bought all of the products that vasu mentioned in the ultimate car care FAQ. i couldn't find the finish first products near me (bay area) at any of the pep boys or kragen stores -- had to order online direct from liquitech. where does everyone else buy these products (finish first, zymol field wax etc)?

before i do the full detail and the "polishing" step i was a little concerned about the 24 hour wait time between coats. i have a garage and can put the car in there for a day or so no problem. but as with many garages, i can't really expect zero dust particles to fall on the car right? can this ruin my finish? any advice/tips?

also, should i get an orbital polisher or should i just polish by hand?

thanks!

I'll throw in my 2 cents worth.

I do both, but acquired a Porter Cable and last year and it sure makes polishing/waxing a breeze. I'm using it with the products/advice from Griots.

You shouldn't go wrong with the products/advice you've received. Product line not mentioned is Griots. Consumers Reports recently tested waxes and although Griots was down on the list for one reason or another, I've found the products do a good job on my '05RL.

I polished my '94 Honda Accord EX with the Porter Cable and Griot's most bland/conservative polish, and was quite amazed how easy the job was and how well the car came out. It's never been garaged and with 459,000 miles, I've always done all the cleaning by hand.

I personally don't think the RL's finish needs a lot of added shine, so I haven't used my Zaino kit purchased last year.

I've been using both Griots and Zaino leather cleaning/conditioning products.

Get a Griots catalog just for the fun of looking at all the "stuff."
