Car's ignition would not turn

Our RL's ignition would not turn. The steering wheel kept moving when we tried, but it would just not turn. I was able to force it by holding the key a little where it thinks it saw it, and the steering wheel moved all the way to the driving position, but then I couldn't turn it more. I kept messing with it and finally got it to turn.

Drove it home, and then it worked fine after that. Any ideas? Tried both keys, spare and main one so it didn't make a difference.

I think I'd have the dealer take a look at that, Pimp. If it happens at the wrong time, it could strand you.

People have posted before about the ignition being hard to turn, and it turned out to be the steering wheel binding against the wheel lock. In those cases, just turning the wheel a little would relieve the pressure against the lock and all was well. But I figure you know about that and are having a different problem.

Agree with Mike. I think it's dealer time, as that issue seems a little unusual.

Actually it did. I had to go to the gas station in my car to help her out. I was getting ready to call RoadSide. Yea the steering wasn't locked so I don't believe that was it. Just kinda weird.

Was the gearshift all the way up, I have had items in the coin box and the lever was not all the way up? That caused the same problem for me.

Gerashift all the way in Park? That explanation actually makes a lot of sense! I remember having that problem in another car, and not being able to remove the key!

Good question. I know it was pushed up but not really sure if it was really pushed all the way up.

Well just an update. Seems the car has been working fine since that day. No idea what happened but it's working now.
