Car shuts off while driving

So I have a 2005 rl. When driving sometimes my car shuts off but then starts back up. I usually get an indication its gonna happen because the radio will stop playing music. When it starts back up it has the message "check power steering system". And I would have to enter in the radio codes again. Anyone else experience this issue. I had it happen last summer a few times and its happening again, never occured during winter. Would it be a power steering problem or just electrical maybe a wire shorting out? Thanks.

Check the alternator, it might be in the process of going bad. This happened to me but my car shut off turned it back on and shut off and stayed off

^before you check the alternator, check the battery terminals.
it really sounds like the car is momentarily losing power. battery terminals might be loose and a jarring drive will unhook them, momentarily

If you need a new battery, I'd recommend looking at a Redtop or Yellowtop. The Redtop is a regular starting battery on steroids compared to most other batteries. The Yellowtop is a deep-cycle battery also on steroids, and is primarily used in heavy car audio type scenarios. However, my previous car's yellowtop lasted more than 7 years... I put the same one in my RL and its still going strong 4 and a half years on!

Direct fit Redtop: https://www.optimabatteries.com/en-u...ing-battery/25

Tight fit Yellowtop: https://www.optimabatteries.com/en-u...-battery/d7525

I left off the battery cover since I installed the slightly larger-dimensioned Yellowtop D75/25, but I wanted deep cycle because reasons.

^This. I seem to recall a very similar thread on this forum about this very issue and it was the terminals

The ground (-) cable I read Spy saying before it corrodes quite fast on these cars. Costs ten bucks to change. It's on my list for the Fall work.

If I said that, I don't remember. I do know the terminal contact can bend and become loose no matter how tight the bolt is. If this is the case, you can use a screw closest to the bolt, between the terminal and contact until the part can be replaced.
