car compliment????

before i tell this story, i don't want to affend anyone..but this is a true story.

I went to buy gas at my local Wawa store. I pulled up and went to put my credit card into the gas pump and I made eye-to-eye with a black man who had his hair braided and was wearing a silk bandana and very clean cut. I turned away and went about my business, but I am a little uncomfortable and I am thinking "drug dealer"...well anyway, I put the nozzle in the car and I am fueling it up in peace.

Then this gentleman comes up my blind side and sayes to me "Nice AK"....and you know for an instance it went through my mind that he actually said to me "nice ass"...I took a long 3 seconds to come to the realization that he meant my car...nice AC or Acura...I told him thanks.

We all face those 3 seconds in life.

I believe that the OP is trying (clumsily) to say is that he overcame a potential prejudice to acknowledge another Acura fan who gave him a compliment. Good on Larry for doing so. More people in this country should do the same.

And the original poster even said that he didn't want to offend anyone, so why such response?

Well I can not talk for everyone, but I am by no means offended, I actually think its kinda funny. With the way the media portraits the different cultures nowadays, it is actually pretty funny. . . . . . . to me at least.

larrynimmo is self-observant. not only does he have a nice car, he may have a nice ass too.

kinda shows first thoughts we can have about someone different....they are criminal or gay.
it's not fair, but it is funny. to have seen the look on your face.

I'm throwing out all my silk bandanas...except the apricot one.

No worries. Congrats on the compliment! Now if Acura could promote their brand name more effectively so more people can recognize and "Ac!"

Boy, I may get slapped around for saying this, but what's wrong with being apprehensive of someone who "doesn't look like you"?

We've been given plenty of reason to be apprehensive of almost anybody else these days, and if someone doesn't look like you, you have every reason to think they may not *think* like you. That goes for the dude (regardless of color) who has tattoos all over him and his head shaved, or the one who has no shirt on and his hair in a mohawk, or the gang wannabe with baggies hanging down around his knees and a rake in his hair.

It's a matter of making judgements that may help save your life, and we all do it.

Honestly speaking, I am always concerned when driving through seedy hoods/ghettos at night. I hope and pray that my car would not break down. I hope I have not offended anyone.

Well, I don't trust anyone until they prove they can be trusted, and always "check my six", especially when getting money out of the ATM. I've never been bothered, but I think that has to do with me being 6'8" and 250.

Even us black guys have "those three seconds", doesn't matter who you are.

OK, this is turning into a Ramblings thread, will lock.
