Can you switch between manual and auto while the car is moving

Hi all,

I bought my car in September and loved it. Had 1700 miles on it and a couple of questions. Hope I can get some insights from here.

1. Is it OK to switch between manual and auto modes while the car is moving?

2. Got PCM software update done recently, but felt the shifting is not as smooth as before. Did anybody else notice the same?

3. I have not had any constant rattle issues. But sometimes when the car goes over bumps or pot holes, I can hear squeaking sound coming from a couple of places. I don't think this is normal, but is there a way to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

don't ever switch from auto to manual, your trasnmission will break into many pieces. I'm telling you don't do it. Make sure your car is fully stop, before you even attempt. Oh my god, I hope you didn't already do it.

I always switched when the car fully stopped, feared that the transmission would break otherwise. But it was really inconvenient sometimes and that's why I asked if the switch could be done while moving.

lol-It doesn't take long for this crew to find the gutter.

On a more serious note, I SHIFT back and forth all the time with no problems.

In the TSX, TL RL and FX35 you can switch in the middle of driving. It is all the same, I have checked with the dealer for every vehicle.

I was joking on my first post, but on a serious note.

There are absolutely no mechanical changes when you switch from auto to manual (as you call it). The sport shifter only allows you to pick the next up/down gear instead of the computer, think of it as an override. Is the same exact transmission nothing changes so nothing can break or anything mechanically happens when switching at any speed at any gear at any RPM. The computer still watches for limitations and might override your manual shifting if it feels necessary, but the switching does not interfere with anything on the actual transmission.

By now you know you can...I do it all the time to use the transmission instead of braking.

I'm wondering whether gas mileage is any better in manual than in automatic mode...probably not...

I believe somebody here reported a while ago that they consistently got 2MPG less than using regular auto.

that is all in the driver, unless you are trying to beat the computer. 9 out of 10 the computer will get better milage, unless like I said, you are trying really hard to get better MPG. So in a consistant basis, full auto get's better MPG.
