Brake job estimate feedback

Estimate

Replace two front calipers with new dealer part
Replaced to rear calipers with rebuilt dealer parts
Rear brake job one year 10,000 mile warranty on pads and shoes
Replace front brakes with new Delco pads
Replaced two front rotors and two rear rotors

Does $2,000 seem reasonable?

My vehicle is a 2007 RL 160k miles

Thanks in advance for your feedback

I recently got my brake job done for little less than 1k total 'out the door' price; ordered new rotors and pads and SS brake lines through one of the vendors here, had the parts shipped to my house, set appt and took the parts to my trusted independent mechanic, and voila! Less than a thousand bucks.

Front calipers cost $450-600 each.
Reman'd rear calipers cost $140-190 each.
Generic rotors typically cost $50 a piece, and pads shouldn't run more than $100 for all 4 corners.

Adding this up ranges $1400-$1800 in just parts. From a dealer, $2000 seems reasonable, but a better deal can be had. I have to ask the same question as justn though. Why do you need new calipers?

+4, calipers only need replacing or rebuilding if they stick., which is pretty rare.
Brake pads and rotors are $400 tops and I can do it all, as a diyer, in 4 hrs. $2k is out of control.

and they become seized from not changing brake fluid.

brake fluid is hygroscopic, which means it absorbs water from the atmosphere which can cause rust inside the brake lines leading to a seized caliper.

Dealer is definitely trying to gouge you for your money. I would steer clear from that dealership. I'm thinking all you need is new front & rear brakes and rotors.

I think Lexus dealers are even worse. The Lexus dealer wanted $1300 for new front brakes and rotors and change brake fluid for my wife's Lexus. I was like f that, bought all OEM parts from Ebay and did everything myself. Total cost was $270.

I would definitely get a second opinion. As a general rule of thumb, we charge about 3.5 hours for pad and rotor replacement on all four corners. We clean out the calipers, properly grease all the shims and ensure everything is installed properly. With parts, labor, and CT sales tax, you'd be around $725.84 all in.

Obviously, getting new calipers would bump the cost up significantly. Just make sure you're not replacing things you don't need to!

ok so I got a second opinion today...

the second opinion says I need new FRONT brakes

I'm thinking of ordering a front brake kit via AMAZON which includes "Black zinc OE replacement rotors plus ceramic pads kit.

The cost is about $150 which includes free shipping.

The mechanic said he'd charge me about 2 hours for labor.

The manufacturer is maxbrakes.com.

So instead of the $2k this all in seems about $400 or so.

He said I most likely do not need new calipers.

What do you think?

Seems more reasonable. I'm assuming the rear brakes looked fine?

Oh ok, that's good. Honestly, I would go for something like Akebono pads and Centric rotors with the black e-coating on the hubs (I'm not 100% the ones offered on this car have the black e-coat).

Unbelievable how repair shops will try and push services people don't need.
