Brake flush-help please!

Going to do a flush tomorrow along with changing my front pads. I cannot find how much fluid will be needed. Does anyone know how much DOT3 brake fluid the 2005 RL will take for a system flush?

Thanks!

Are you going to flush all the lines or just the fluid reservoir? I would figure two small bottles to do the whole system, or a quart. Be sure you watch the fluid level very carefully. If you run the reservoir out of fluid then you have air in the system and that can be a nightmare to get out.

I believe the recommendation is to use pressure to flush the lines and not pump the master cylinder.

Have you ever done this kind of work before?

Brake flush

Thanks AlfaDoctor. My plan is to flush the entire system. I am new to this but it doesn't seem too hard?? I have changed pads before but not flushed the system and changed all the brake fluid.

Wasn't there a recall to replace the Master Cylinder seal if non-Honda fluid used?
Probably need to get the Honda fluid unless you know the recall has been performed.

If want to do it right at home, I would suggest you get the MV8020 Brake Bleeding Kit from Mityvac.

http://www.mityvac.com/hq_images/MV8020.jpg

Its easy to use if you are by yourself and its inexpensive at 30 to 50 bucks. I just did my brakes this weekend and it was a snap.

Good Luck

Yes, I had the recall performed, but all they did was check the Master. They didn't flush the system with new fluid. My car has 43,000 so I think it's time.

Getting a power bleeder will make that job a LOT easier, and make sure you bleed in the specific sequence called out in the manuals--lf frt, rt frt, rt rear, and lt rear..

My dealer says any DOT 3 or 4 fluid is OK--you don't have to use Honda stuff. I use ATE gold.

Just spend $100 and have the dealer do it.

Brake flush complete!

Did the job yesterday -- followed posted instructions on changing the front pads (used Wagner ceramic pads), then had a helper pump the brakes while I flushed out all the old fluid and at the same time added the new Honda DOT3 fluid to the Master cylinder. Total cost $40 for the pads and $16 for 2 pints of brake fluid (used 1 1/2 pints). Took me about an hour to do.

Thanks again to the board for great info!
