Blind Spot Mirrors
Blind Spot Mirrors
Anyone using them on their RL? I've played around with the position of the driver's side mirror a few times but I think their is a serious blind spot on that side. I've had a couple of close calls to the point now that I'm considering purchasing those little mirrors you attach on the side mirrors. I've never experienced this on previous cars that I've owned.
if you're not adjusting your mirrors like this;

I doubt there isn't a position that can almost completely eliminate your blind spots. It's just a matter of fine tuning them. The best time to verify their settings is when you are on the highway. As you pass a car or a car passes you on either side, watch the mirror to see if there is ever a time that you can't see their hood in your window or their car in the mirror. Ideally, there will be an overlap of those two. In my Tundra, I can always see some part of their car. The only exception to that is for motorcycles.
Mine are not much wider than the RL (not towing mirrors), but my truck is considerably longer. And you definitely have to set them up.
To be honest, my side mirrors are only useful on the highway since they point to the lanes on each side and toward the ground quite a bit. I can't see a car behind me with my side mirrors. Since my daily commute is 50% three or more lanes, I intentionally set them that way so that I don't have to look over my shoulder. If my window and mirror are clear, I am good to change lanes.

I too do not look over my shoulders when switching lanes. I'll give those convex mirrors a try because I still do not feel too comfortable even after adjusting the mirrors a few times.
I was going to purchase the mirrors from Wally World but ended up getting them from Amazon. These are thinner and do not protrude out as much as the kinds you find at Autozone or Walmart. And instead of the black trim these have more like a chrome trim around them. Figured what the heck, for six bucks I'll have added piece of mind while driving out on the road.
I drive 35k-45k miles a year. I currently have the 2012 RL and installed the cheap round stick on blind spot mirror on the lower inside edge of the driver's side rear view mirror. It works great. Better than any OEM application (I have had the new TLX loaners twice with them and a rented Fusion). Not pretty, but it really does the job well.
I drive in and around DC on a daily basis and occasionally back to NYC.
I do wish the RL had the blind spot monitoring and the Honda Lane watch, but these little cheap stick on round blind spot mirrors really work great.
