Thumbs up Before you replace your Power Steering Pump

Hello long time lurker on here

Before you decided to replace your power steering pump things to look for first. i went through a epic journey to fix my issue and hopefully someone would find this helpful

If your car starts to make a whining sound when you turn your wheel.
check for cracks on the hose from the reservoir to the pump, usually it's a sign it's sucking air. replace the 2 seals from the inlet of the pump

I found a crack on my hose and had to use good old gorilla tape with those metal rings you tighten with a screw so air doesn't get in. but not too tight or you will crack the old hose.

like me I crack the hose in half and had to use gorilla glue and 4 metal rings
while I wait for parts to be order.

see below for pictures

Before over tighten metal rings
After my hose crack in half!
Replace 2 seals on the power steering pump.

this is the Weirdest thing I have encounter that i couldn't find on google or on here.

If you power steering doesn't turn and it takes a lot of force to turn and you don't hear any whining noise.

locate the power pump and unscrew the top section of the high pressure hose.

you will now see a pin in the middle. push it down 20 ish time or more.
i believe this is the fluid regulator.

Metel pin

after pushing it down a couple of times, I put everything back in and started the car. I couldn't believe the wheels freely turned from lock to lock! a lot of money.

has anyone ever experience this before?

My wife's CR-V whines like a camel that's dying while giving birth. When I get the time I will follow your recommendation and report back.

Also look inside the reservoir and see if there are any bubbles while the car is on.

Rather than put some tape and a bunch of hose clamps, just replace the hose and the two o-rings. In your pictures, the power steering pump is clearly leaking, so you might as well get all the seals for the pump and reseal the pump as well.

It was a temporary fix while I order parts from Florida.
parts are really hard to come by in canada even at the dealer, they were back order for 2 months....in the 2nd picture you can see the new hose replace

Is it still working now after doing this? I'm having the same problem after a timing belt replacement and was thinking of trying this but if it's not a permanent fix I won't.

My 2008 RL whines a lot from the power steering pump area when I start it cold, but after warming up a bit the problem goes away. Does this rule out the power steering pump and o-rings? There is also no additional noise when turning the wheel.

Thanks
