auto headlights not working

So when i purchased the car in may 2011 i was driving on the highway and it was almost dark and the headlights came on. At first i had no clue what was going on until i looked in the manual and found out it was normal. Ever since then i have tried numerous times to adjust the settings to auto and i can't seem to get the lights to come on. Is there a diagram so i can see if i have it in the right slot. Idk i guessn im going to have to take it to the dealer hopefully the warranty covers it

2005? There seems to be some quirks in the '05 Auto system.

Here we go with the o5 "quirks"

What do you mean in the right slot? either the switch is in off, auto, parking, or headlights.

Do you have any stickers/tint on your windshield?

Sorry the 05 thing was for 007... you missed the "what do you mean by slot" question.

Yep makes, sense... have you adjusted the auto light settings in the MID?

Thats where you lose me bro... what are you lining up?

If the switch is in Auto, and the MID is set to the right sensitivity and it gets dark or you pull in a garage your lights should come on.

If not, and you turn your switch to the "on" position and the lights work, then you have a problem.

Don't call him "bro".

I was referring to the headlight notification upon turning the car off with the lights on "auto" in the 2005. That's the only model that does it.

I have seen other threads that claim the exact same thing. I agree that the sensitivity settings are not exactly intuitive. Bronx, what if you put a sheet of paper over the sensor? Do the light's turn on? It is in the middle of the dash behind the center speaker.

There is no special technique to lining it up. If you think it is, I am sure it is. There are four notches that you can feel as you turn it. Auto is the third one from the top. Try the paper thing and report back.

If you are under warranty, I would call and make an appointment and let them look at it.

I wouldn't expect you to come out of pocket unless you did something.

^Yes. That is a pretty crucial function. If covering the sensor doesn't trigger the lights, I would think the system is messed up somewhere between the fuse and the sensor.

I happen to go through a tunnel and i tried the auto setting and it actually worked this time. I was in totally shock. I still made a appt with the dealership for monday and i have a loaner car reserved for me. Could it be that maybe the sensor went bad and thats why it didn't work?

It could be you have the sensitivity set to the wrong extreme.

I think that it is caused by the tints on your rear lights.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess db doesn't like your taillights or fabrication of the word "tints".
