Arizona RL owner around here?!

Hey, ladies and gents! I've been around for a couple months now soaking up every piece of information I can from you guys. I've been looking at getting a new car for quite some time and despite changing my mind frequently about whether I wanted an Audi, MB, Mustang, Camaro, TL, CTS-V, new, used, MPG's, reliability, value, AWD, etc.. etc... I keep coming back to a used RL!!!

I wanted to find a '07 or '08 but... I found one that's currently for sale out in Phoenix, Arizona. It's a White 2006 with just over 48k on it. Looks to be an Aspec car with a spoiler, cleared lights, tint, wheel and shift knob, rear view camera, and some very clean looking 20" wheels.

As it happens I'm going to be going to be in Phoenix this coming Sunday for a week for work. I'm definitely going to take a look at the car (you guys better not buy it before me!!) but since it does have some work done to it I figured the owner might be on these forums somewhere. I'd love a little additional information on it from the owner himself/herself or someone who might know them!

BTW, thanks for all the solid info on these great cars. It's made a difficult decision for me much easier. This is definitely one of the best forums/communities out there.

Well I didn't want to make it too easy for someone to find it and pick it up before me, lol.

Hope the link still works.

Haha, the plane can't leave soon enough!

Can you guys see anything additional done to the vehicle that I haven't picked up on? I normally don't even consider cars that have mods done by previous owners because I don't know the level of quality that went into the work. But, this is something that I can verify when I see it in person.

Are the 20" wheels something to be concerned about? They look like they fit properly. But, I don't really know the car intimately enough to know spacing and offsets.

Not sure what you mean by cleared lights, but those headlights are stock.

The only thing that concerns me is the price. That seems a little high unless he is willing to sell the stock wheels with it. The car does look clean though.

As for the mods, that is a TL shift knob. It matches perfectly, but sits higher than the RL knob. I know because I have one too. What you can do to fix that is drill the knob hole deeper and it will screw on. I will post pics later to show what I mean.

EDIT: Found it faster than I thought I would.

You're right, the price is a bit higher than I would be willing to pay for an '06 even with the relatively low mileage. I did sell cars in the past and I'm a pretty solid negotiator. I'm expecting them to have quite a bit of wiggle room in the car. Even more so when you throw in shipping costs/transportation. I'm from the Cleveland area so it'd be a bit of a haul driving it back on my own lol. If not, then the search continues!!!!(Who wants to sell me their clean RL? )

I'm still hoping to get lucky and catch the owner, or someone who knows the owner, though.

I see what you mean about the shift knob. When I first read your description of it I didn't think it would be that much of a difference, but DAMN that's quite a change! Something I'll definitely have to fix if I pick up the car this weekend. How much play do you have to drill with?

As I mentioned I'm from the Cleveland area so I'm a little concerned about the 20" wheels on our roads and the effect they have on the cars ride. Some cars can get away with it, others really struggle with thinner sidewalls!

That car looks very well kept, or at least well detailed.

It does not show wear in the most common areas, particularly the driver's door armrest or center console armrest. That does not prove or disprove how it was driven or modified, but common wear points reported on this forum. I have had my driver's door armrest replaced and center console armrest recovered.

See if you can validate is it has ASPEC suspension (receipts?) as the ASPEC body kit does not mean the suspension was included. However, it does look lowered, so it could be an aftermarket suspension mod.

The engine cover piece for the battery was removed (likely to accommodate that battery). See if it has been saved....a minor detail.

They posted price is just above the RETAIL value. The seller likely feels justified due to the body kit, suspension, wheels and interior accessors additions (wood wheel & shift knob). It is a starting point. Only you can determine if you want it that much.

That said, that is a very clean RL, and very low mileage. It is also an early 2006 build based on the VIN (my RL is in the 9000 range and built May 2006) so it may be wise to inquire to the A/C and listen for a propellor shaft whine (most often reported in colder seasons & climates). Those issues surface more on 2005 models, and mostly recitfied by 2006 MY. I have had no issues with my mid year build 2006.

And prices vary by market, but my 2006 has 45K miles and in as clean as that one. I do not have aftermarket rims, nor ASPEC body kit or suspension. I was recently offered $22,750 for my RL (but I was not looking to sell).

For the knob, you have a little over an inch to go into the knob to get to RL hieght. If you do go through with it, post back here or PM me. I can give the two bit sizes I used and the depth you can safely go.
