Any Tips to Increase Gas Milage?

My 06 has been getting the milage I have been expecting based on my driving habits and what it's rated for. I was just wondering if anyone else has made any adjustments or added aftermarket air filters etc that may increase their MPGs? I'm sure this has been covered but I didn't see any threads directly related to this. Thanks.

I regularly get 29-30mpg on the highway. Only changes from stock is a K&N filter (in stock air box). Other than that, I keep the tires either at or slightly above the recommended pressure. BTW, my tires are the stock/OEM 17" Michelins.

Buy tires that are rated for quietness and not performance.

Keep your tires inflated.

Use 91 octane or better.

Move to the coast, and avoid stop lights and traffic jams at all costs.

Use 0w-20 full synthetic motor oil. Honda approves it, and its lighter weight reduces internal friction. I also second 007's advice about low rolling resistance tires (which will handle more poorly -- nearly every compromise has a price) and tire pressures.

But don't expect miracles from this or any other steps you take. You have bought a 4,000 pound, 300-horsepower, all-wheel-drive luxury sedan. Given that, its fuel efficiency is really pretty good.

Run slightly higher tire air pressure instead of the recommended 32F and 30R. Acura recommends 36 F and 35 R for sustained high speed driving (above 122 mph).

This will reduce rolling resistance and traction.

i too have K&N filter but i'm getting nowhere close to your MPG on the highway. i do mixed city/high (probably 50/50) and average roughly 21-22MPG.

i have aftermarket 19" wheels but again not sure how that would comply w/ MPG calculation. Any thoughts?

IMO 22-24 is about right, 29-30 is on the high end... not impossible but not the norm.

Have you actually done this with your RL? I had heard about people recommending a 0w oil before but hadn't heard anyone doing it to their RL..

The two numbers on the oil bottle designate the range of viscosity across temperature. A 0w-20 has the viscosity of a 0 weight at the lowest temperatures and the viscosity of a 20 weight at the highest temps. I run a 5w-30 to accommodate the extreme heat of Texas summers. As long as you use the appropriate weight for your climate, everything will be fine. I don't need a 0 weight because I will never start my car in sub-zero temperatures.

I don't fully understand how a 0w-20 can improve gas mileage though.

BTW, I have been using one of these and I have noticed a 10MPG increase and I think probably somewhere between a 50-100 WHP Gain!

Wow, you guys are getting pretty damn good gas mileages, I have a 2005 RL (KB1) model, I also have a KNN air filter, and I have 18" Michelins

I'm averaging about 16 MPG at most I haven't been on the interstate much, but I guess it's because I'm always in the city lol and traffic is a pain.

I get about 20MPG for my commute, ~25 miles one way stop and go. But I like to drive like a jack rabbit so I don’t really care. Now if we have to take our 22 F'in days of furlough then I might start driving like granny!

Wow, I wish I could get 16. Stop and go, maybe 14 or 15, but my tires are slightly oversized at 255/40-19

The computer says 11 around town and low 20s on the highway. Not so good.

Similar driving in the S2000, low 20s around town and mid 20s highway.

I have no idea how Honda is getting 30+ on the RLX. 200cc and a 6th gear does not add up.

Yes, this is the oil I use. Have for years. No problems, including stop-and-go driving in 100+ degree heat.

I mostly do city driving involving a stop at almost every corner. I was getting 12 to 14 MPG until I started to go as lightly as possible on the gas pedal from a complete stop and now I am getting 17 MPG.

Step #1

Hammer some very sharp, razor thin nails up through the bottom of the accel pedal so pointy ends stick out towards foot. Place enough nails so the whole pedal is covered with about 1/4" between nails.

Step #2

Drive barefoot.

Around town we don't really pay attention to the mpg as it just inhibits the driving lol

On a run up the highways (mostly) I did 140 miles (and about 30miles urban) and got 26.4mpg at an average speed of ... erm.. well above 55mph shall we say.
Had it in full auto for that trip and rarely saw an upchange at less than 5k.
I thought it did pretty well tbh.

On a sidenote, what octane fuel do you guys use?
Your US octane ratings are different to UK ratings.
We've had 89 in it so far but might give it some 93 next time.

The engine is tuned for 91+. Texas only sells 87, 89, or 93, so I always went with 93 to avoid a retarded timing.

They just upped a lot of the Texas interstates to 75 mph, so 80 is the new normal. I got a surprising 27 mpg averaging between 75 and 80 mph on my way home from Houston after Thanksgiving.

Yep that's what they have around here. So it gets some 93 for our 2k mile roadtrip next week.

I think some of the roads I was on have 95-105mph speed limits... at least I never got any tickets so they must have... right?

Sometimes when I'm near a gas station that sells ethanol free I will get that

Seems to bump MPG by a bit

Where you buy gas makes a difference

When I has my TL I mostly bought gas at my local BJ's After getting the RL I was still buying it there and getting 16-17 Then I started noticing that I got between 17 and 18 around town when I bought Shell and Mobil. So I tend to stick with those brands

Recently changed the route to my work - more lights, stop signs, and speed limits are not quite great and with all of the above lost about 2-3 mpg on an average.
I completely do city driving and average 18.5 to 19.5mpg. If I hit highway that's where number goes. It is what it is I guess... during summer season (Chicagoland) I mostly use my motorcycle for commuting to work and everywhere else where I can go with it - 50mpg vs RLs 20ish is much better for about 5 months out of the year

So one another solution no one has mentioned is: get a motorcycle - what you waste on gas can easily be your payment for bike annually

This is the best MPG I've gotten after using half a tank of gas. Then again my GF was driving for the most part. I usually get 22-23 MPG

What the hell!!!! When I'm even at 200 miles for my trip A I'm already almost at E what are you and your gf doing to get those kinds of MPG? Are you driving it on Manual and putting the car on Neutral at every stop light or what (I don't know if it really makes a difference maybe someone here can explain it to me)

Wow that's pretty good IMO. I also have 19" wheels and drive mixed city/hwy and I get about 16-18mpg hahaha.
