Check here:

https://acurazine.com/forums/2g-rl-2005-2012-76/rear-differential-oil-change-497458/

The rear takes tranny fluid and I can't remember if there is a front differential.
I used Mobil 1 for the transfer case.

Also check this link for the transfer case:

The differential no longer takes tranny fluid unless you have a stock of Z1. Use DPSF in the diff.

007spy is right. ATF was the proper fluid in 05 but now the ATF fluid has changed and you have to use SH-AWD (DPSF) in the differential. I have an 06 that I changed on Saturday. Back section takes about 0.8 and front section 2.8 litler/quarts. Capacities are listed in the owner's manual. I ran the rear wheels up on ramps and then jacked the front up until the car was level. Then just fill the sections up until they overflow. Remember to use new washers and make sure you open the top plugs first so you don't drain the fluid only to find that you cannot get the top ones open.

My local Acura dealer (Crown Acura, Henrico, Virginia) tells me specifically that the 2005 and 2006 Acura RL, although the 2005 and 2006 RL used to use ATF-Z1 these two model years now use the ATF-DW1 (ATF-Z1 replacement) in the rear differential. I bought DPSF anyway, based on Acurazine recommendations.

Does anyone know the SPECIFIC answer? Is there an Acura bulletin or site referring to whether the 2005 or 2006 RL should get ATF-DW1 versus DPSF?

Your local dealer is incorrect, you should use Honda/acura Dpsf(dual pump fluid) in all shawd rear differentials, DW1 for Automatic transmission and gear oil for transfer case. My advice is to always use oem fluids for these above mentioned items (with the exception of transfer case), specially for automatic transmission always use oem fluid.

Honda says API GL4 or GL5 gear fluid, This is an ordinary angular gearbox with two gears, use any GL5 80W90 fluid. I fill Valvoline 80W90, capacity ~500-550gm.

I am confident that you are right. However, do you have a written confirmation, like an Acura technical service bulletin, an official Acura website link (not just a dealer website), or a written Acura chart that says this?
