Rear differential fluid overfill

Hi, owner of a 2013 TL SH-AWD here.

I was changing out my rear differential fluid today and ended up putting back in just about a full 3 quarts of the DPSF fluid. I believe the capacity is supposed to be ~2.6 qts. I was keeping my eye on the fill hole but didn't see any spill out, so I kept pumping fluid and before I knew it, I had basically put in the full 3 qts.

No leaks or other issues noted yet, but anyone know if this will be a problem in the future? Would you recommend letting out some of the excess fluid, or redoing the fluid change entirely?

Thanks for any advice!

If memory serves, for the differential you are supposed to fill up to the level of the fill hole so it is impossible to over fill unless the car is at an angle.

I had the same happen to me and I wondered the same. The fill took almost 3 qts. I agree with C8N so the stated capacity must be incorrect.

Eh-um...if you don't have lift, and I'm assuming you don't, the fill hole will be higher (angled up, increasing the capacity) because you've jacked the back ass of the car in the air.

You assumed incorrectly. My car was level.
Even if is wasn't the "tilt" would not be enough to fit an extra 1/3 of a quart of fluid.

^ Yep... my car was leveled best as possible as well on 4 jack stands.
It only made sense because had to change oil and rotate tires.
