Acura TLC...great response

Well I had to use the Acura TLC on Friday. After being away for the holiday and the RL sitting in the garage for 5 days…the battery was dead. Friday at 6:45 EDT I called TLC and received a very prompt response. Roll back arrived at 8:00AM, car was at the dealer by 9:00AM and I picked up the RL with a new battery installed at 2:30PM. Dealer stated the battery had a bad cell.

All of this happening on New Year eve! Needless to say, I was quite worried about having this taken care of during a holiday weekend. My compliments to the Acura TLC for their excellent service and a job well done.

Maybe a bad cell but I thought I would warn you of two situations that may lead to dead battery other than the cold.

1. The overhead light if you turn it ON (not normal DOOR setting), it will stay on and could drain your battery in a day or two. Acura should redesign this to auto-shutoff in 30 minutes!

2. The start knob, if you don't turn it fully off, will stay on keeping some functions on a slowly drain the battery ( a few days????). In a car with a real key you wouldn't be able to remove your key if the starter wasn't fully off. Not so with this keyless system! Only way to know you left it on is that the steering wheel does not move to give you more exit room and the nav screen will stay on too.

I know these things because I woke up to a dead battery a few weeks back , jump started no problem but I am more careful now.

Not saying these situations apply to you, just thought I would use this opportunity to warn all about this.

Good to hear of the great service should you need it!!

FWIW, I posted this response to a similar thread on acurarl.org...

"I've heard from a couple of sources that when the ignition is left in the accessory position there is a 6 amp current draw by the various systems. Supposedly, the engine will not start after 9 hours in this state..."

I had the RL parked for 5 days and come back to see that the battery is dead. No light left on still battery died. Had to jump start. Taking to the dealer next week. Maybe a bad cell.
