Acura RL TV Advertising?

Seeing many TSX, TL, RDX TV ads but nothing on the RL. What gives with Acura? It's as though they don't want to sell the RL.

Maybe they see the writing on the wall for the 09' RL and don't want to throw good money after bad.

It's being refreshed in another month. They're not going to waste money advertising a model that is being replaced. Plus, you can't start advertising the next generation since it's not available yet. Thus, no advertising.

Having said that, they hardly advertised the RL even when they should have.

Hopefully, Acura will do a little better with the advertising once the MMC is out shortly.

I used to wonder why they didn't advertise too. Then a friend pointed out that many of the high-end cars don't get that much advertising... I haven't really looked carefully, but I haven't seen too many LS commercials. Maybe its because the prospective buyers with enough coin to go after an RL know what they're looking for? Different type of audience ... ?

The only advertising I've ever seen for the RL was in Architectural Digest.

I saw a few pages of SAAB 9X with their version of SH-AWD called XDrive in MotorTrend, a few pages of it. I read the spec and it was not as impressive as RL's SH-AWD, IMO. It really is a shame that Acura let RL fade in people's mind, although I do like the exclusively because I do not see too many RLs on the road. I've seen more LS460 than RL and LS460 just started coming out not too long ago.

Once pioneered the japanese luxury brand, now a bottom feeder of japanese luxury brand in a lot of people's mind. Not that Acura cars aren't nice, but a lot of times, it's the image that sells. Look how American car companies eventually lost their customers to Japanese & European car companies.

I don't know about rest of you, but most people I talked to, they are agree, some hesitantly agree that...

American cars = cheap POS that brakes down withn 100k miles. Japanese cars=oil change and good to go. Buy american if budge is tight but buy Japanese if you can swing that extra a few grands.

This image will take some time to heal, and so is Acura.

^ Yeah, definitely, Acura isn't really a luxury brand in a lot of people's books.

Let's not all forget that the lack of marketing and advertising works in our favor, deep discounts and exclusivity. The RL is a superior car, if people buy other cars for image and pay more then we're in the lead!! Nobody here bought the RL because of superior marketing. This is a good thing.

Acura has been doing a lot better with marketing new models lately. I expect them to market the 09 RL a lot, but its going to take A LOT of marketing to sell that car.

Indeed. I also appreciate the exclusivity of our model. I am SHOCKED when I encounter another RL on my drive, and I nearly ran into a tree when I saw one the same color as mine (figuratively speaking ).

Think about it, many people buy luxury marques because they believe it gains them exclusivity. In fact they bought the marque and not the car. And many, many sheep belong to this flock.

I love the fact that not only is the RL truly exclusive, but I also KNOW it is worthy of it's merits. How many people drive a Mercedes and cannot even tell you what model it is, nevermind what its merits are. When I asked an client what Mercedes she has, the answer I got was : 'A silver one.'

Why am I finding myself agreeing with DoctorTuna so much lately?

All the same, I'd like to share the Kool-Aid with others outside of the Honda/Acura family.
