A16 Time or Not

My extended lease runs next month. Let's do an intergrity test for a A16 service.

A) Hit reset and clear the MID code and turn the car in.
B) Turn the car in with the MID code
C) Have the service done

I'm opting for C this Thursday. I either will end up keeping the car after Thursday or try to strike a deal for a new TL with SHAWL.

If you keep the car - of course have it done (C).

If you turn the car in, I would not bother (B). That service should be done anyway to prep the car for resale.

AWD...nice.

Good luck with whatever you decide. Yeah...either handle...or leave the service reminder...don't reset it.

B)

Blah! If you are going to return the car, I would not bother doing the service. I highly doubt the Acura inspector will deem it necessary to fulfill this service to honor the lease return obligation.

Since you are considering the TL SH-AWD (which means you don’t mind the new bold styling) why not consider the 09 RL too?

Please inform us on the decision when you get back from the dealership!

09 TL SH-AWD with Technology Package $42,235

09 RL with Technology Package $50,300

I would consider them in the same ballpark. You also have to consider the TL SH-AWD a “hot commodity” due to decent sales on the new TL models and people who understand value of the SH-AWD (supple & demand will kick in & checking the 4G TL members sign-in the going rates $37-$38). The 09 RL on the other hand is more a “rarity” and seemingly in no demand (I have seen the same black 09 RL on the dealer lot for over 3 months) therefore I am sure the dealership will accommodate any reasonable offer ($41-42 range?). For that reason, if Professor is looking at the new TL SH-AWD or opting to keep his current RL, looking into leaping over to the RL isn’t that far fetched (if he can accept the new bold styling that is..).

Well...he'd have to accept the bold new styling of either one, no!?!? Lol...

Yeah, you're right...but I don't think they'll drop the RL down that much, no matter how long it sits. I guess it depends on what the dealership paid Acura for it.

honestly I would take the 09 RL for the interior, but unfortunately money is usually the deciding factor and its practically the same car

I'm sure this is all covered in the initial agreement that bears your signature. Dealers are not dumb and will know what has and has not been done. Follow the agreement and you will have no questions.

The first code is either A or B, A requires an oil change only and B requires an oil and filter change. The second code (Sub Item) will contain letters 1-6:

1.Tire rotation
2.Air Filter and Micron filter (Cabin Filter) replacement, and check the drive belt
3.Transmission fluid, and transfer fluid (if equipped)
4.Spark plug replacement, timing belt replacement (if equipped), inspect water pump and valve clearance
5.Engine coolant replacement
6.Differential fluid replacement

fredren,
Thanks for the clarification. I'm a newbie and was going to ask someone to explain the A16 code. Thanks for keeping me from having to ask.

They would change the oil without changing the oil filter??? Never heard of that.

This is a typo in the manual that has existed from 2005 to 2009. I suppose they depend on the techs to know that procedures tell them to change the filter when they change the oil.

FWIW, the same terminology is used in other Acura and Honda manuals, such as the TL and MDX, the CRV, the Civic, etc. it just says to Change engine oil with an asterisk that says

If the message ‘‘SERVICE DUE NOW’’ does not appear more than 12 months
after the display is reset, change the engine oil every year.

The RL does not follow standard mileage threshold service calls.

Instead the MID code determines what service details need be performed.

The MID code is compiled based on mileage, driving style and sensor information.

If you check the manual for the service codes you will see all the normal service details, but the alpha numeric code assigned by the MID bundles these service details for the service call required.

In other words, be kind to your RL and your RL will be kind to your wallet.

Since my ownership (4k mileage), only had a A1 service
