great price was when we got the 2011 update for $100.

This seems to be a map update only, no improvements in interface or anything.

Interesting to note that:

- The 2005 update comes with 2 discs
- The version numbering went from 4.9x to 4,A2
- The link for coverage details takes you back to the 2010 4.81A, which, if I am not mistaken was released in Fall 2009 for the 2010 model year ..
- As noted by 037, looks like no real functionality additions, probably the last functionality updates were with version 4.7x

lilryan - pop your trunk and eject the dvd out of the nav unit back below the rear shelf on the left hand upper side of your trunk. the version number will be on the disc.

Or just use the Info button on your nav to find out.

Megatron,
Does that actually show you the Disc version number? I think mine says something like 2005.09.23 or something like that, not 4.92 like the disc actually says on it?

Yes it does. I forget the exact year, but somewhere along the line, the version numbers shown on the Info screen changed from the year/date to the 4.xx numbers. It might actually coincide with that "required" software update on a separate disc a few years ago. Anyways, I know my original had the date as the version number, but starting somewhere, it switched to the 4.xx numbers. Right now, mine shows 4.92 on the info screen.

Am I reading this correctly? You have an RL with navigation and also have a Garmin navigation unit attached to your windshield/dashboard?

Personally, I bought the 2012 disc just because my car still had the original map disc in it and some areas and POI's were in need of updating.

yea i have the Garmin as well because here where i live, Fricken construction changes like every day and lanes change a lot, so i prefer the Garmin because these disc may have new routes posted but not new constructions appearing. unless there is an icon on here that i can see that. also my traffic icon doesnt really work when i want it to. does anyone know why? do i need to have xm installed?

on another note, i thought $150 was a good price considering my local dealer is asking about $200 with taxes and shipped. dam dealer. well shoot if anyone has it for less than $150 let me know and ill order from them. also i do need an update just to see if i keep the garmin or sell. .

You should look at an upgrade. I think it is worth the price especially since yours has never been upgraded.

You will need to specify you have 2005, so you get the second disc needed to upgrade.

I think you will find a some nice functionality updates...even if you lose the male voice...and my feeling was that the software upgrade made everything work faster....and that was upgrading from 4.3x.

Chas,
I've been looking at it for quite a while - but I'm having a hard time convincing my CFO (wife) that it's worth the money since I have a pretty sweet Navigation app on my iPhone that was $30 (Navigon Mobile Navigator) - But I agree, it'd be nice to have up to date maps built into the car - We haven't really had any trips in it yet since we usually need to bring the dog along and there's no way I'm letting my 80lb white/black german shorthair in my black car!

Lilryan, You'll need the 2 discs because one updates the firmware of your navigation hardware which the newer updated navigation discs take advantage of.

Megatron, after hitting "info" where do I go to find this information? Are you talking about the bottom-right button labeled "Info"? When I hit that, I get all sorts of options, but no information regarding my system. At least that I can see...

Sorry, my bad...

It's actually the small Setup button... Then you push right on the Jog dial to pick More... then you turn the dial to the very last option... System Information. That will show you your NAV version.

$149 is still better than the usual $199. $50 bucks off is better than no bucks off. I'd wait until early next year when they are $100 again, though...
