2007 RL - Lights on with wipers?

Today was the first day I drove my new RL in the rain. In my previous car, whenever I put my windshield wipers on, the lights automatically came on. This is a requirement in many states including PA where I am. You can get a ticket for not having your lights on when it is raining. Is there any setting available to have the lights come on whenever you have the wipers on?

Um....your lights are ALWAYS on. We have daytime running lights on our RLs. So you're safe in PA.

If you want more illumination during heavy rains, set the lights to "auto"--they will come on with sufficient darkness.

And if you find a way to turn off the DRLs let us know! We only know how to turn them off in "surveillance" mode!

I know, I am on this board too much!

What about the tailights? Cars following me can better see my car. I want all my lights on when it is raining. I guess I'll just turn them on with the switch. I'll miss this little extra I had with my previous car.

FN P90 (as in the FN P90 personal defense weapon, a very cool looking bullpup design submachine gun) wrote thread about conducting surveillance operations and needed a way to shut off his DRLs, so a that is surveillance mode. You can have the engine running but not driving and have the DRL's off. So, hence, surveillance mode.

In the 07 TL there is a fuse you can pull to turn off the DRL lights. Has anyone with an RL tried it?

Haven't pulled the fuse but I have the owner's manual in front of me and it shows fuse #3 in the interisor fuse box as "Daytime running light". It's a 10amp fuse.

Yeah, but do you get a warning on the MID?

well I successfully FINALLY defeated the DRL... but it was a little $$$ to do it. Basically I put in a relay harness that connected to the battery with a 12V relay, so when the DRL is operating at 2V the relay isnt energized, so no voltage goes to the HB... but when you flash during the day, or use them at nite, you get 12V from the stalk which closes the relay and the HB gets 12 from the battery direct.
The harness was cheap, only $25... but I went ahead and changed out the bulbs to HID, which set me back $400.
You can do this with the stock bulbs and just use the harness.
No warning on the MID, no fuses no wire cutting.

Thank goodness Acura is one of the few car companies to still trust the driver with things like headlights, wipers, traction control, etc. It's bad enough there are DRL (thanks, Canada).

If people want a nanny car they should buy a Toyota product!

DRLs aren't sufficient for rainy conditions

Oooh, another of my pet peeves. Your DRLs aren't sufficient for rainy conditions -- rain requires front and rear lights and your DRLs are front only. If you've turned your wipers on and the cloud cover isn't enough to have turned your auto- lights on, you need to turn your lights on. All too often I come up quickly on drivers of high end cars who think their DRLs are making them visible from the rear, when in heavy rain but bright skies they're hard to see. I wish our RLs did kick into full lighting w/ wipers, but since they don't we should.

What's the big deal about DRLs? I have never encountered an issue with them. Maybe you Yanks have super power DRLs? Or, maybe you Yanks just continually like to bitch and moan about EVERYTHING.

And yes, we DO have super power DRLs that add 10 hp at least.

As far as wishing for lights on with wipers.....we could use that, as well as rain-sensing wipers. How much would you pay for that on your RL?
